For gods sake, some clearly should go actually study what the topic of the Mayan calendar is all about and how its NOT the end of the world.

Anyone that says this rubbish is showing themselves to be as thick as a Fianna Fail voter - and thats saying something!
Such idiots should go get an education and then speak with a bit of brains and knowledge to back it up!

    Midichlorians.

That in itself is a reason not to listen to George Lucas.

Why is he still making films so instead of out living it up and blowing his (hundreds of) millions?

Cant be all that confident in his beliefs.

really wish i could thank this comment a million times, really annoys me this whole 2012 thing that originated from the stupid nmibru planet that internet schemers started. The mayan language is dead and no one can translate it properly so some bright spark decided to say "oh its the end of the world"and as usual the sheep of the world followed.

Rogen told the Toronto Sun: "George Lucas sits down and seriously proceeds to talk for around 25 minutes about how he thinks the world is going to end in the year 2012, like, for real. He thinks it.

"He's going on about the tectonic plates and all the time Spielberg is, like, rolling his eyes, like, 'My nerdy friend won't shut up, I'm sorry ...'

Haha, that's ridiculous! (Spielberg is clearly a bigger nerd than Lucas.)

Why write 'Star Wars creator' when surely everyone knows who George Lucas is? Grrr

"Creator" gives it biblical/apocalyptic connotations, tying it in nicely to the theme of the article.

Gues that ruins his plans to release the 6 movies in 3D, one a year starting in 2013...

I just hope all those idiots that predict the end of the world in 2012 are reminded of what morons they are when the world doesnt end.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,699 ✭✭✭deathrider

I'd probably rather see the world end, than see him re-release those movies yet again. They seem to get released on an annual basis at this stage, each time with more added never-seen-before footage. Those flicks must be about four hours long each by now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 107 ✭✭immature ejaculation

yeah the world is going to end in 2012 sure they made a film about it!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,199 ✭✭✭Shryke

I stand firm on this, even if the world ended in 2012 it would be coincidence that Mayans predicted it also. I wonder if George and Steve think [spoilers for Indy 4]
inter-dimensional aliens told the Mayans about the end of the world
. Honestly though. Why not. It makes as much sense.

Pffft! People have been putting a date on when the world will end since who knows when and every time they've been proven wrong. Remember all this talk about 2000 and the Millennium Bug?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,743 ✭✭✭MrMatisse

Has anyone called Jim Corr to find out the truth?

Well, he ripped off Frank Herbert, why not rip off the Mayans while he's at it.

He 'ripped off' everything actually. Various aspects of Stars Wars can be traced back to hundreds of different sources/inspirations.

The end of the Mayan calendar in 2012 has led to the notion of an imminent apocalypse gaining some popularity in Hollywood.

Shít, I just looked at my calendar and it ends on the 31st of December, 2011. Should I be worried?! Does this mean the world's ending sooner than we all anticipated?!

I saw it on Discovery and the calander stops on the 21st Dec 2012.
Its because from some religious site where they observed the sky, they calculated that on the 21st Dec 2012 the Earth will be alined with the sun and the centre of the Milky Way galaxy, hence the end of the world.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Lucas
estimated net worth of $3 billion as of 2010

Lucas has pledged to give half of his fortune to charity as part of an effort called The Giving Pledge led by Bill Gates and Warren Buffett to persuade America's richest individuals to donate their financial wealth to charities.
Maybe he should give it all away ASAP as he is never going to get to spend it in time. Maybe hang onto a million or 2 for the next year.

2012? It's a bit sudden isn't it? Couldn't someone get in touch with some Mayan calendar makers and get them to add a few more years on?

The Spanish killed them off years ago - didn't pay their stone wheel tax!

George Lucas expresses an opinion on 2012 and I couldn't care less. Now If MT Cranium agreed with him? I'd get worried.

You are conflating Millenarianism with the Y2K bug my good man.

(I can't believe I finally got to use 'conflate' and 'Millenarianism' in a sentance. The same sentance to boot! :D )

Millenarianism is the same sh1te as this Mayan 2012 Lark whereas the Millenium AKA the Y2K bug was a very real issue. Saying the Y2K thing was a load of sh1te cause nothing happened is like saying we wasted millions on mass vaccinations because the Measle, mumps and Rubella pandemic never happened.

I heard of two dates in recent history which were supposed to bring on the apocalypse, 5th May 2000 and 6th June 2006... we're still here aren't we?

Our calendar reset 23 days ago and we're still alive, the end of a calendar does not equal the end of the world.
