Screen resolution making everything huge

Hi, I got a second hand computer tower and connected it to my screen but the resolution is set making everything huge. I cannot use the wheel in 'settings' in control panel when I click on 'monitor' to adjust it. Does anyone know what I can do to make the screen size normal again? Hello DM,

Please right click on your Desktop and choose PROPERTIES and goto SETTINGS and you should be able to select what you want.. (I am @ 800x600 right now)
