    I take it you're a distributor?

A lot of autos in that list. Have you noticed a swing towards automatics in the last few years?

    EDIT: Also - no petrols?

Fleet rather than a distributor - all customer cars.

One of our customers gives the driver a specific type of car, but they can choose manual or auto dependant on driver preference - that explains the A4 and 3 Series Auto's. Monthly cost difference on the 5 series between manual and auto is minimal due to the residual difference, so most go Auto. The Merc really has to be an auto ;)

Petrol is dead. It's been more or less dead for companies for the last few years because you can't reclaim VAT on petrol.

too many good deals on used cars and if this rule about private sellers having to give 3months warranty comes in it'l take away even more from new car sales, for me at least.

    What
How can a private seller be expected to offer a warranty with a car? Must be some idea of the Green Party :pac:

Yeah always thought it was a case of caveat emptor buying privately

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,401 ✭✭✭Nonoperational

No way in the world any private seller can stand over a car for 3 months. Imagine the carnage... people calling to your door with a blown light bulb 10 weeks after you sold the car to them. People arn't mechanics, they are in no position to offer warranties!

Have to agree I bought a new one in 07 out of my own pocket that is no loans etc. and a month later a volvo pulled out of a side road 4 grands worth of damage. His insurance covered it. Just had it all fixed up and 4 months later a dude with no insurance no tax no licence and a bottle of vodka consumed not even his own car hit me head on and wrote it off nearly killing me in the process. Me ending up in a field with the cows  Payed 36k for it and sold it 6 months later for 4k  So that put me a wee bit off new cars in the future ..........

I picked up an Octavia on the 4th of January. Had the windscreen replaced last week after a stone hit it on the M4/6 on the way to Galway. This morning I noticed a chunk of paint missing from the bonnet after what looks like another stone hit there. I wish I had an old crappy car and didn't give a toss! :(

Sure, but someone has to flush its money for a brand new car. Otherwise, there would be no second hand ones available ;).

He was in a crash that nearly killed him and his car was written off, don't see how that makes him a plank to be honest. Nothing to haha about either.

Yup bought myself a opel astra :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,435 ✭✭✭mandrake04

Technically I bought it and am the registered owner but my employer pays the monthly payments and supplies me with a fuel card, I bought it brand new last week and took it over 4 years with no residual so at the end of the 4 year I own the car outright.

I do pay tax on it but only for private use which is log booked at 14% where the bulk is for business use at 86% is tax free, even after the tax is paid I still walk away with $70 pm in my pocket which nearly covers 2/3 of my Insurance & Rego.

Of course there was specifications to be adhered to, it had to have 4 doors, hard top, not-be 4WD and most importantly fuel consumption must not be over 10L/100KM, it sneaked in at 9.8 L/100KM which is very economical for a 3.6L V6.

Yes of course I did but lost a hell of a lot more than just the price of the car, job medical bills etc. won't bore you with the list, and I won't be able to insure a motor till the case is over maybe another two years or so fingers crossed.

seems that Skoda is now very popular on this thread, I have been away from Ireland for about 6 years but have been back about 3 times but never noticed a lot of skodas are they popular on these roads these days?

I remember seeing just 1 Skoda dealership in Sydney, but have yet to see a Skoda on the roads yet.

'We' just bought a 2L diesel Toyota Avensis Sol.... Waiting to collect it, and really, very excited! Feeling a bit guilty for buying it in current economic climate but just a deal too good to refuse with scrappage and tough negotiations!

No the GSE model could not get a 4X4 for love nor money. Turns out in my opinion apart from the 4X4 part the GSE is a much better spec than the 1st Edition. I took it for a drive this weekend and was very impressed really could not think of anything it was missing for the money.
