Ham and cheese toastie - nutritional information

    I've started to track my food this week using fitday.com

    I had a ham and cheese toastie this morning for breakfast. Any idea what the calorific and nutritional information on this would be? Fit day is an American sight and has a ham and cheese sandwich under fast food but it's only 327 calories which definitely doesn't seem right.

    Its a boring process that you will get used to but you need to look at the packaging if you made it yourself and makes notes that you can refer back to but if its shop bought I would think that 327 is low enough.

    2x decent slices of bread would be 300 cals
    2x slices of ham would be 100
    cheese is a minefield for calories, if it was full fat cheese there could be 150 cals for a tiny slice.

    Thanks DC, that's what I thought.

    It was bought in O'Briens which has those massive door step slices of bread.

    I've put down 800 calories for the sandwich.

    Never again! This food tracking definitely works.

    I am doing something similar.
    its very hard to get a an exact weight.

    best solution imo
    is check the calories etc per weight on the packet, then weigh the amount of cheese, ham & bread then work out how many calories are each item based on the weight using the information on the packet.

    example (fake info)
    100g block of cheese = 1000 calories,
    your using 10g of cheese = 100 calories.

    you may need to multiply/divide depending on quantity etc

    do this for each item and keep a record of it, if you eat roughly the same amount each time, it should be close enough.
    and you wont have to work it out every time you make a toastie

    Yeah tracking really works, makes you very aware of what you eat. O Briens sandwiches are horrendous for calories, Have you tried the Rachel Allen things there?

    No I generally stay away from it but I was just after a swim training session, had stupidly forgotten my breakfast and was ready to eat my desk so decided to "treat myself".

    800 calories is not worth it. It was nice but not that nice. Good lesson to be prepared next week and not leave breakfast in the fridge!
