Tendonitis in knee

    Hi all,

Firstly, feel free to move this thread if it should be somewhere else.

I developed tendonitis in my right knee last year, season finished up around Halloween and physios reckoned 3-4 months solid rest should sort the issue out. Nearly 3 months in, and while it is a bit better, i think that is only as I am not doing training or long drives to training (that used to kill it).

So while the resting is all well and good, do any of you out there that have or have had tendonitis, know what exercises I can still do for fitness or to attempt to get some fitness back ahead of new season. Someone told me cycling is good for it, i assume basically no impact exercise like running, but i was thinking maybe walking, cycling, or swimming should be ok, anybody got any experience in this?

And also, if you had it and got rid of it, how did you? Been told I may need an injection, but i reckon that is a short term fix...

    Cheers,
    MartinAnt

Your physio is the best bet to get advice re exercise. They may give you some exercises to strengthen and what is okay to do and not do.

I had a similar issue but with my achilles for several months early last year - but my physio gave me exercises to strengthen the area, and I was given the okay for any activity that did not aggravate my condition - ie cycling, aqua jogging, weight training, yoga.

Best bet is to go to the professionals for the best advice suited to you. No point in dwelling in 'iv been told maybes ..' Get it checked out - we are not physios nor can we give you diagnostic advice or tell you how long it will be as we dont know you/your condition and are just strangers over the internet.

    All the best with it.

    Thanks Meta,

Obviously I know you are not physios. And I am not after professional advice. I am in touch with my physio, I have tried the 4 week rehab which should have cleared it, I have done the rest period which should have cleared it, neither which have.

To a certain extent, I think physio's advice can be hit an miss, and cannot be totally relied upon unless I see a tendon specialist, which I may well end up doing. All i am after is if anyone has any personal experience with the issue to see what may or may not have worked for them, while at the same time I know everyone's situation is different.

    Cheers,

Well I have/had patella tendinosis over the course of the last year, I found the exercise that helped most was an eccentric squats:

I was out of training for four months and progress is slow but you will get there. Don't return to training to soon as you will undo any progress you've made. I also took a Cissus Quadrangularis and thought this may of helped.

Another interesting blog which charts someone with knee trouble through physio to surgery is:

    Hi all,

I developed tendonitis in my right knee last year

my left knee had a tendonitis issue...had it looked at by dr (to see if an MRI was an option), physio, then a biomechanics coach... it improved under the direction of the biomechanics coach... they had a better understanding of the movement patterns and zoomed out from the knee to see *why* the knee had the issue... Myofascial Slings etc...

if you want their details PM me
