    Hi,

I searched the supplement sticky but couldn't find much advice on this particular question hence the new thread.

I am currently training for strength and to be on a bit of size as well. I'm looking for the best all-in-one supplement that has creatine, glutamine, whey all in one. The most well known of these is Cyclone. A friend of mine takes Muscle Milk.

Anyone got any recommendations or experience here?

My supplementation is limited to Whey shakes at the moment.

I just add in what I want to a whey shake. It's no great hassle. Pretty sure it's going to work out cheaper too. Would you consider doing that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 350 ✭✭jeff lebowski

Yeah, I could do that. Not 100% sure on the best measurements of stuff and what exactly to include bar some creatine, glutamine and whey.

    PWO
    30g whey
30-50g dextrose or a bottle of lucozade
    5g creatine (heaped teaspoon)
    5g glutamine (heaped teaspoon)

It's not perfect, but it's cheap, simple and effective.

    Cheers.

I'm roughly 80 kg at the minute. How many of these would you recommend in a day? 1 in the morning then 1 after workout maybe?

If I could afford it would Muscle Milk, Cyclone or something like that be a good choice?

Sorry about the newbness.....I have been training for quite a while but my nutrition knowledge has consisted of taking whey, a bit of creatine then loads of chicken, steak and tuna.

Have it with dextrose (which is basically just glucose/sugar) after training, if you're having one in the morning, have it between breakfast and lunch, but don't include the dextrose. Maybe have a handful of cashew nuts or something with it.

    Agree!

If you had money left over try 10grms BCAAs before and after training.

It seems ok but before you buy workout how much it would be if you bought the individual ingredients seperately-maybe not all of them but the main ones.
Ive a feeling itd probably be better value.
Also maybe Im wrong but the fine scottish oats in it-isnt that just basically ready brek? I put oats in a blender before and thats exactly how it turned out

They also have a product called Hurricane Evo, not sure what one to go for. They seem like good value compared to Cyclone or the Reflex one.

I know mixing them seperately could work out cheaper but I don't mind paying for a good, solid all-in-one for the convenience of it.

    Hey there,

I think you'd be better off buying a tub of whey(any one will do-less sugar the better) online for about 35/40 and then a tub of creatine mono which you can get for peanuts too.
If you are eating enough protein throughout the day you probably don't need the BCAA or glutamine and you probably don't need the dextrose either (if you get in enough carbs for the day your glycogen stores will be topped up by the next workout anyway so no need for all the sugar imo) unless you plan on doing cardio or a second workout later on in the day.
Just make sure you get in plenty of food and water throughout the day, bust your ass in the gym, have your creatine PWO to replace what you used in the workout and you should be onto a winner.

The reason I take Dextrose is to spike Insulin post-workout.

that's fine. i just prefer topping up my glycogen stores with more nutritious sources of carbs. i find a meal after training is just as good as i only train once a day.

Bainne. But apparently throwing up may occur if you drink 1000 calories.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 350 ✭✭jeff lebowski

I drink too much coffee already but wine gums (or whatever) are always good!

Don't think 1000 cals worth of Milk is a good option for me. I wouldn't be on for trying the GOMAD, all the milk I take is in tea or coffee.

In terms of all-in-one supps I have narrowed it to Reflex One Stop, MP Hurricane XS and Hurricane Evo.

The "mix it myself" is also an option but I would prefer an all in one at the minute and dont mind paying a little extra.

Ah no no, im not talking about restoring glycogen, after a hard traing session glycogen can take a few days to restore in the muscle that was worked anyway.

The reason you want to spike your insulin post training with a high GI carb is because insulin causes GLUT-4 to draw nutrients into the muscle. This is why my post workout shake contains 40grm Dextrose, 10grm BCAAs, 5grm Creatine. 30mins later I take 50grm whey Isolate and 2grms Dessicated Liver. Then my meal of chicken and brown rice 30mins later again.

Do you mind me asking what your daily/weekly routine would be using all of the above?

Is there still enough time to eat normal food?

I do not take all of the above every day. On training days, max of two shakes. On non training days i take one or maybe no shakes. I have never tried the ZMA, BCAAs or Thermopure before but i thought I'd give them a go as this was a good deal.

My training is a mix of lifting (At 90 Kg I am lifting.....2 x BW on DL, 105kg on BP and 120kg on squat) and a few crossfit metcons with a few cardio session thrown in.

    I ordered that.

First time going for a proper supplement program. Before I just used whey and tried to eat decently.

I'm trying this in conjunction with a 5 x 5 program so hopefuly of good results. I was doing stronglifts but the thrice weekly squats were wrecking my running and I need to keep at least a basic level of running fitness.

    due to tiredness?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 350 ✭✭jeff lebowski

They just made me really slow on days that I did get out for a run. I presume it was the squats as previously, I could do the weights and run without any problems. Maybe if I have better nutrition to aid recovery it won't be as much of a problem.

I work in a job where we have to do a fitness test every year and part of it is running so I can't put it on the back burner.

I am no expert but based on diet, level of training and MP instructions here is the Max i would take on a day of hard training.

BCAAs - 3-4 in the morning as directed
Tribulus - once in the morning and once in the evening
ZMA - 3 before bed as directed
Hurricane shake - mid morning and another one two hours before training
Thermopure - 3 tablets 45 minutes before training.
Recovery EVO shake straight after training

Where possible I try to replace Hurricane shakes with "real" food and wont take any Recovery EVO or Thermopure on non training days.

The followings just landed at my door this morning:

    http://www.myprotein.com/ie/products/100-core-bundle

MP MAX ONE Promilk (Strawberry flavour, 2 x 8 packs): Provides a massive 38g of high quality protein and is a rich source of BCAAs, which all helps to promote repair and growth.

Alpha Men (120 tabs): Potent blend of vitamins and minerals to boost your daily intake whilst improving your overall health & wellbeing.

MP MAX Hurricane Evo (Chocolate Mint flavour, 1800g): Superb all-in-one supplement combining all the nutrients you need to build lean tissue.

MP MAX Recovery Evo (Blackcurrant flavour, 1280g): Cutting-edge recovery shake. Designed to help promote lean growth, recovery rate and re-hydration after workouts.

Impact Whey Protein (Strawberry Cream flavour, 2500g): High protein supplement to help build and repair muscle tissue.

BCAA+ (270 tabs): Easy-to-take high quality source of three essential amino acids. Helps provide energy to the muscles and prevents catabolism.

I cycle 15 - 20 miles Monday to Friday, go to the gym three times a week and go for a longer cycle at the weekend. I'm looking to cut weight initially so the following is the plan (I'm not nececarily taking MP's recommended dosage):

I'll take 2 Alpha Men and 3 BCAA+ in the morning and 1 Alpha Men and 3 BCAA+ in the evening EVERY day until they run out (40 days for Alpha Men and 45 for BCAA+).

I'll take 3 MP MAX ONE Promilk's weekly - one on each gym day. These will last just over 5 weeks.

I already have about 60 servings of Impact Whey from my last order so I'll take a serving (possibly 2) daily for the 6 weeks that the above will last.

In 6 weeks, I should be at my ideal weight and can work out a plan for the Recovery Evo, Hurricane Evo and remaining Protein.

Hurricane Evo has 30 servings and Recovery Evo has 15 servings. The protein has 100 servings. I'd probably consider 2 * Hurricane Evo, 1 * Recovery Evo weekly - one on each of my gym days. I'd then use the protein on the remaining days. This would add another 15 weeks to the length of time the order will last.

In all, the above package will last 20-21 weeks or about 5 months.

    The package costs €130.29 but I paid €117.26 after a 10% discount.

My discount code is MP289427. This will get you a 5% discount on your first order.

But of course... an employee of the month would always start threads like this one trying to find alternate suppliers after they upped their irish prices http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=68416806

The only two protein supplements that I've tried is MyProtein Impact Whey and Dymatize. Both in chocolate or some variation of chocolate, e.g. chocolate fudge and chocolate mint. I found them all as good as each other - especially the chocolate mint. I haven't tried the current bag of strawberry cream whey yet.

Also, I'm just back from a 40 mile cycle. I'd considered trying one of the MAX ONE Promilk's to see what they're like. However, at about €2 each, I changed my mind and had a double scoop of chocolate mint Impact Whey instead. That's slightly more protein at a cost of €0.67 (based on 5kg bag including delivery).

I'll use the MAX ONE Promilk's at work for the convenience.

I have they impact whey choc nut at the moment and it is grand,

I had maximuscle choc before that and really they are pretty much the same,

    I would recommend it,

Just to note on flavours though the choc version has the least amount of protein in it 8 percent less than unflavoured, i didn't notice this until after I ordered it, so next time I am get some I intended on getting the unflavoured version.

I would look into bulkpowders whey protein as well as another choice, I never ordered from them but they suppose to be good!

Mod note:Keep the myprotein codes for your sig only please
