What would happen if we were just invaded, How will we defend ourselves? Things are very different to nearly 93 years ago, 1916 rising.

we would have no choice but to surrender. our military is just too weak to compete with a decent force, unfortunately.

    Who invaded us in 1916?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,012 ✭✭✭Plazaman

We would welcome the invaders with open arms, anything is better than the shower in power at the moment.

Although they'd be gone in 24 hours when the see the state of the country. I can see it now : 21/01/2011 BOLIVIA INVADES IRELAND - 23/01/2011 BOLIVIA BANKRUPT !!!!

And Eamon O'Chuiv too apparently. He'd put the ape into gorilla warfare.

I would get onto the street and wave the flag of our invaders. I like to back the winning side.

A few protests, banging the ground with dust lids, perhaps some stealing of weapons but thats it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,295 ✭✭✭✭Duggy747

I'd play Call Of Duty to psyche me up for war...

....and then get myself killed within 5 seconds of attacking the invaders.

Friend: "Duggy, what are you doing!?!"
    Me: "Imma shoot those bastards!"
Friend: "You'll be killed, you idiot!"
Me: "Don't worry, I'll respawn a few seconds later"

We would surrender in minutes. How can one expect to get invaders out of the country when the people here can't even get Fianna Fáil out of government.

If we were in invaded the rest of the world you go mental and would be all like...

lol i'd say this'd be the case with a lot of people... i know some people who would do nothing but complain about noob tubers and grenade spammers if opposing forces used just one of either,,...

I'd direct the invaders to Leinster House and ask if I could a borrow a gun.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,038 ✭✭✭jackiebaron

Silly question. There would have to be a reason for invasion. And the reason for most invasions is to enrich the invader either directly through control of resources or indirectly because the occupied country has some strategic value to the business interests of the invader.
They try to assure you that this isn't the case but over the course of time it becomes glaringly obvious. So that's when you start planting carbombs again.

Seriously, who would invade us?And why?

    The natural resources? Nope
To steal our large stockpiles of gold? Nope
To steal our wimminz? Nope (except mine of course, she is gorgeous)
To move here for the climate? Nope

If they invade, I'll be hitching a ride back to their house!

NATO are guaranteed to come riding to the rescue. We sit in a strategically valuable geographic location from which to launch attacks on vital NATO basis in the the UK and to intercepts and disrupt supply lines between Europe and the US. NATO could simply not afford to allow a belligerent power to take over here.

We sit in a nice cosy geographic location where we don't have to lift a finger to defend ourselves but have almost guaranteed security.

we were relatively well off 93 years ago - at least we had not all the current levels of debt hanging over us then, and our infrastructure was world class at the time.

if we were invaded now what would happen to the tens of billions bailout the UK and EU are giving us ? They presumably would take action with the invaders ?

Well, even if we were invaded for whatever reason.....maybe our stockpile of Tayto crisps?.........our Guinness?............but I'd imagine the Brits & Yanks would be pretty nippy in helping us out.

The brits and yanks are the most likely countries to invade us.

    And they are incredibly unlikely.

Then all those lonely gamers with their Call of Duty and their Medal of Honour would have something useful to do, like hacking into the invaders' computers and totally wrecking their systems. The military bosses don't realise what a powerful force we have in this underclass of computer wonks.

So nobody would stand up and fight?

It seems we never have the ability to unite and flight against any oppressors.

We would rather bitch and moan and begrudge anyone who did even to the point of siding with the enemy.

I for one would stand up and fight even if it was a lost cause. I'm sure I would be laughed at but I will always believe in this country.

In fact I love this little country of ours.

I gotta ask, why does every post made by you involve this?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,023 ✭✭✭Fukuyama

Stage 1: Irish army defeated after a short spell of open warfare. Numerous civialian deaths after Dublin, Cork and Shannon are bombed.

Stage 2: Defence Forces continue with guerilla warfare, sniping and planting of IEDs along enemy transport routes. Particularly the ARW.

Stage 3: Official DF activity dies down.

Stage 4: We all get annoyed with our new overlords because they're not sharing their gold and jewels with us.

Stage 5: An enemy of the invador (eg... if US, the Taliban, Iran or whatever) begins linking up with dissedent republicans. Shipping in small quantities of explosives and firearms.

    Stage 6: People join up.

Stage 7: Bang nag, boom, kablamo, crackle... chik chick.... *mashine gun*

Stage 8: We're getting our arses kicked but go ape every time we get a little victory.

Stage 9: The invader gets bored and leaves.

Stage 10: We still have our fighting Irish recognition. But we're ****ed as a country and can look forward to the next 60 years repairing this mess. Kinda like now. In fact, it might have been better if th mess we're in now could be blamed on a war. At least then we wouldn't be viewed as a pack of idiot paddies who cant rule themselves...

The Army as a whole would probably avoid open warfare. It would be pretty obvious that open warfare would be suicide against any modern well equipped invasion force.

Not much training is needed, very simple to get a man up to the ability to defend or fight from an urban environment in which he already lives.

It'd be like the equivalent of visiting some tourist spot in Ireland, you've heard about it, prepared for it, but when you get there its raining and sh1t, and then you leave after a half hour and go to the pub instead.

No but if the lives of my loved ones were at risk, I would pick one up and learn how to use it.
