Benefits of taking a Glucosamine supplement?

Just a quick question - apologies if I'm in the wrong place for this...

I've started taking a Glucosamine Sulphate supplement in the past 3 weeks or so. I was shopping in Sainsburys over Xmas and it was 3-for-2 so I picked up three. I've been taking 1/2 a day pretty consistently for about 3 weeks or so now I suppose. I also bought some Berocca (also 3-for-2!) and have been taking 1/2 a day for the same time.

Since new year's day, pretty much, I've lived fairly healthy, back GAA training, hitting the gym 3 times a week, almost no alcohol and eating quite clean - although alot!

My question is - I have never, EVER had so much energy. I have boundless energy particularly in the past two weeks. In the last two weeks I've trained 5 days a week (as well as work, all the usual family stuff etc) and I don't feel tired or worn out at all. In comparison to pals and team-mates who say they're feeling tired (we've been training hard with the GAA club) it's quite a turnaround - as I'd be near the bottom of the pile for fitness on the team.

I was just wondering, is the Glucosamine making the difference? The Berocca (which I've taken quite a bit before)? The good livin'? Or just all of the above??

Probably not to be perfectly honest. Never seen evidence glucosamine does anything, a healthy body can manufacture the glucomsamine it needs.

Clean living, exercise, kicking alcohol is a sure way of getting more more energy, but probably not as exciting a prospect as a magic pill :)

Well done and keep it up, you earned it.

Its most likely the healthy diet :)
Im actually taking glucosamine myself.Have been reading studies on it to see if it is effective and from those have learned it is most effective after 8 weeks on them. But on the test subjects it only made a slight difference for the better compared to the placebos.
Glad to hear you are full of energy.I feel the same after christmas since i went back to my low carb diet.
Less groggy and wake up alot earlier in the morning now too.

    Thanks folks! :)

I've been keeping a log on the Fitness forum of my training and it just struck me when I saw it on paper that I don't believe I've ever had as active a fortnights as this past one. I'm 29 next month - not young but certainly not old - and I've never had this much energy in my life! I dunno... maybe it's as much in the head as anything... I actually can't wait to get out training lately - very much not like me! :D

EDIT: Actually, as an aside - if not Glucosamine, what vit supplement would you recommend for the "active lifestyle", jsut a regular multi-vit? Thanks in advance...

What do you want the supplement to do exactly? Seems like you're doing pretty well on your own!
