This could be useful for listing recipe ideas, points values, progress etc without clogging up the main nutrition and diet thread?

100% support this idea. Well that or make them put all discussions in one thread. Its getting to be a joke. Fitness wouldn't put up with this!

They're closing the food diary forum, I doubt that they'd make a WW forum instead. But I would agree with moving all the WW/propoints threads into one as they are slightly taking over the N&D at the moment

There's always the WW own message boards if you want to use them:

Folks in all fairness Weight Watchers is a brand, it's a company. It hosts its own forums for support, we're not going to have a designated platform for them here too.

Aside from the Food Diaries no major changes are going to be made here until after the move is made and we all get the lay of the land in the new location.

WW may be a brand but in essence those following it are counting calories. Not some mystical new diet that only WW know about.

I would urge you to reconsider setting up a sub forum. Here people could post recipes, look for support, and offer tips and advice using different threads. The current WW thread has over 400 pages and is onerous to search through to say the least.

Other brands in other forums have their own sub forum. O2, 3, ESB, UPC etc so why not a Weight Watchers sub forum?

To access the boards on the online Weight Watchers site one had to be a paid up member which in the current climate is not possible for everyone.

If the issue is the name why not call it something like "Calorie Counters sub forum"

Call it diet plans then, which incorporates WW, Unislim, Atkiins, Tesco diets etc..

If they get a "diet plan" forum we should get a strength sports forum.

They pay to have them hosted. I honestly wouldn't highlight it too much if I were you, it's technically breaking copyright to list points without WW's permission.

Why not use the official WW forum out of interest?

Like El_Dangeroso said these companies pay money to boards.ie to be allowed have official forum. As it is the WW threads here are providing not insubstantial free advertising for the company. A dedicated forum is definitely out of the question.

No-one is getting a diet plan forum. That is not, and never was, what the aim of the nutrition and Diet forum was all about.

Don't even think about adding this forum to your trolling playground.

It is on their UK forum and you have to have a valid UK postcode to register - I just used one I knew. The Irish WW web presence is lacking.

Calorie counting is far easier IMO, the points system is supposed to be simple, but you only have to look at the new forumla and all the confusion in the forums to see it is very far from being as simple and widely available as calorie information.

If it did get a dedicated forum it would get more attention and would be more likely to be stopped or in effect ruined by WW (by asking for no points to be posted). As I posted in another thread

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weight_Watchers#Criticism
    Criticism
The WeightWatchers.com bulletin boards use the rubric of violations of intellectual property to attempt to enforce a prohibition against posting PointsPlus values for foods in the message boards.[17] While Weight Watchers can legitimately impose rules on the use of its forums—including prohibiting posting of PointsPlus values—casting the restriction as a violation of intellectual property is misleading. In the United States, formulas standing alone cannot be subject to patent protect. See Gottschalk v.Benson. Formulas are similarly are not subject to copyright, because they are functional as opposed to expressive in nature. Similarly, the fact that Weight Watchers has not sued ConAgra Foods for labeling packages with Points values, highlights the weakness of any trademark related intellectual property arguments—the usage of the Points trademark on the packages is a nominative trademark use that is protected under US law.

Weight Watchers has not provided official confirmation of the Points or PointsPlus formulas and has aggressively sent cease and desist letters to websites and a number of third party tools that claimed to provide Points, or PointsPlus, calculations.

Well this forum is in effect becoming a weightwatchers forum. It might as well be a designated platform. So there should be a forum or restrict all the posts to one thread and sevd the posters to the WW official forum. This middle ground situation is the worst of both worlds.

How is it becoming a weight watcher forum? There is a WW general discussion thread and a WW pro point thread. One person who is new to the forum decided to start 2 pro point threads possibly unaware of those 2 threads, hardly a big deal.

The other day there was one sticky and 4/5 threads related to weightwatchers. has been tidied up now.

A bit of tidying up and people will get the message, you made a point about fitness not putting up with it but there is plenty of times you get a few threads on supplements or gyms and they get cleaned up into the appropriate thread eventually without any fuss.

Totally agree that a WW forum is not required. This should be a general Health and nutrition forum to cover all aspects and I have noticed that WW is taking over signifcantly.

And it's a major brand. If people feel that strongley about it they SHOULD pay for the the official WW forum.

    hi guys

I have been following this thread over the last few days. In my opinion maybe we should have a ww forum as going through the two threads is annoying if you miss somthing and have to go back through the thread to find it.

Just a thought that has not been mentioned here is maybe a mod or two making contact with someone in ww ireland and see what the have to say on the idea.

    At Lantus regarding
If people feel that strongley about it they SHOULD pay for the the official WW forum.
The payed official ww forum is in the ww uk site. There are some differences between ww ireland and ww uk in terms of points values on some items.

I pay for it as do the majority of ww posters on here. The problem is that weight watchers as a brand really let their Irish members down there is no comparrison between the irish and english sites imho ww have a monopoly in Ireland and dont need to put the effort into getting and keeping members like they do in the uk.

I totally agree - such a let down in Ireland.
I lost 3 stone with them in 2005 and at the time, I made a lot of use of the UK WW forums. I contacted the IRL people and asked about getting forums, etc, on the site and I couldn't believe the response. I'm paraphrasing but they said "we're girls, we don't know how to set it up". I suggested they could pay a company to do so and maintain it and then they said they hadn't the money for it. Business first, support second.

ETA: I was at a meeting during the summer and the leader gave out an email asking for suggestions to revamping the website. It was a centralised address, I mailed with suggestions. No response but I wasn't expecting any. No changes since then to the site either.

Can you at least merge the two weight watchers thread...having two threads for the same thing is really annoying. It would also make life easier on mods...one less thread to watch over.

Its not boards responsibility to offer and Irish weight watchers forum.
As mentioned o2 and vodafone pay to have there forums with boards....
weight watchers should be the ones to get off there irish HQ offices to sort out a proper irish site going.

The original thread was working just perfectly. Thoroughly enjoying it!
Dont change a thing...well except merge the two threads together

I'l recommend to anyone who wants a specific WW forum to all email the WW organisation and ask for them to pay for one on boards. You'll never get what you want unless you talk to the right people.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 12,832 ✭✭✭✭Blatter

I think something has to be done about WW. It takes over this forum in many respects.

Maybe if WW were contacted and offered a forum on boards.ie( at a price, of course).

If they refuse, ban all WW related content here. They won't want that, I'm sure they know damn well how much of a free ride they are currently getting here with regards advertising on the two threads.

    Thanks for the thread merge!
