Static Training

    Just wondering what peoples views are on static training. I was reading an old copy of Mens Health the other day which I found lying around my house (think it was one of last years summer month issues) and it had an article on static training and how you can grow "amazing bicep peaks" and how it can add "two inches of thickness to your chest", blah blah blah etc., the usual articles you'd expect to read inside the magazine. I know Mens Health does tend to ever so slightly exaggerate, but I was wondering if anyone has tried this type of training method before, did it work for you, did it add all the peaks and thickness you were promised by from the writers at Mens Health?

    In this article below from Bodybuilding.com, it states in the article that one guy managed to put on nearly 29 pounds...of pure muscle! After ten weeks of static training...is that possible!?

    I very much doubt anybody is achieving 29 lbls of lean muscle in 10 weeks. Unless they are putting muscle back on after losing it and are on the juice. 2-3 pounds of lean muscle a week for 10 weeks is just something that doesn't happen naturally regardless of what your training or diet is like.

    Only form of static training and i don't even refer to it as that would be holding the barbell for a period of time at various heights along the motion of the shoulder press. Sometimes i'll hold it around nose level for 10 seconds and other times just above my head or at full lock for 10 seconds. I found it has helped a bit in making the weight feel a bit lighter along the path of the bar. Only other times i'd use it would be for double over hand holds and also holding the bar close to my chest for 10 seconds when in the position for a penlay row. I only really do them when i hit a sticking point.
