When I compress a folder using tar -cvzf I get the whole folder structure. Is there anyway to avoid this happening.

    so compressing the folder /home/supermonkey/Desktop/supermonkeystuff/
gets a home folder and a supermonkey folder whereas I just want from supermonkeystuff down.

    Many thanks

cd /home/supermonkey/Desktop/supermonkeystuff first, then do your tar !
