Recovering Encrypted Home Directory Question

    Hi Follks,

I was wondering if anyone here has any experience recovering files from an encrypted home directory in Ubuntu? I've been messing around with an Ubuntu Desktop I had but I seem to have bricked the OS as I am getting GRUB errors and it won't boot. The problem is I left some files in my home directory which I thought I could easily recover with a LiveCD but when I booted into the LiveCD I found out my home directory is encrypted. :-(

I've had a search online and it seems to be something straight forward but Im curious do I have to leave the encrypted folder on the computer to access it and recover the files. Or could I copy the directory to an external HDD, bring it to another Ubuntu system and be able to access it?

    Dave
