The A-Team van was always my favourite vehicle on TV. So much so that I swore I'd get a black Hiace and paint a red stripe down the side of it. Thankfully I didn't.

Triumph Spitfire, especially in racing green, though I had a fondness for the two-tone Herald too.

205 GTi 1.9 in blue was the thing. OP you must be in your teens?

I liked the 80's Ford Escort, the Rover SD1 for some mental reason, most Morgans (I'd a corgi dinky Morgan), and the Fiat Ritmo my neighbour had cause it had round door handles, and they were waaaay cooler than normal door handles. And a 205 Gti too now come to think of it after seeing RJs post.

When my dad got a new datsun 120y, I thought itwas super cool,

Then his brother brought his 81 datsun bluebird ss coupe home from the uk.
First car I wanted, I was about 7.
Pillarless windows, electric aerial, spoilers, alloys. Awesome!

Then there was my uncles rx7 savanna which I only saw photos of

My grandad had a mint mark 2 escort 1.1 3 door in yellow up till 1993.
Sold it for £100. Is worth a small fortune now :-(
Loved that car except for the vinyl seats that would burn you during the summer.

His mate had a lovely bmw 2002, which in the 90s was super cool wheels for an oap, sub zero now.

Neighbours had a manta too which I wanted!

In 1998 I saw an article on grey imports in auto express with a 2 page picture of an fto, I had to have one. 9 years on I got my first one :-)

The parents bought one of those ritmo new in 1982, twas blue with yellow fogs and a black rubber spoiler, quite a decent looking yoke, they had it for 5 years then replaced it with a two year old beige mark 2 ritmo that looked **** in comparison and rusted badly.

Neighbour around the block from us had an 90' Golf GTi with some sort of exhaust system on it. It was black and had a green pinstrip around the bumpers and along the rubbing strips on the doors. It looked and sounded unreal and everytime I heard it I would run outside tripping over steps, shoelaces and everything else just to see it drive past the house haha.
Wonder what happened to that golf, vanished in the mid 90's...:(

An 84' Gold colored 320i coupe a neighbour bought in the late 80's was another looker and still has it today but only sees May, June & July and then vanishes into his garage for 9 months of the year.

The old fella had one of these for a brief period; Lancia Thema Turbo. Mental yoke, I'd love to have a crack at one to this day.

    LANCIA-Thema-turbo-16V--1992-1995-.jpg

Friend of the parents had a Saab 900 Turbo similar to the one below. Loved that car:

    Alfasud.

Eventually had a few of them.

There has never been a replacement, a most wonderful raw yet practical drivers car.

Drove a Citroen ZX Volcane once, came closest.

I liked these when I was about 8 since it looked like the Ghostbusters car
    800px-Citroen_CX_2500_GTI_Familiale_1990.jpg

Then when I got a little bit older these caught my eye (had to be red, not blue, sorry Roverjames)

    fordfan_1143106151_peugeot_205_gti_1988_02_b.jpg

Soon after I started admiring the BMW E30 (again, had to be red) and eventually managed to get one which I drove as my daily for 3 years, great car, loads of fun to drive

??? You know something I don't know alexmcred?:) Maybe you meant 205 mi16?

For me the top choices (among many) would be Peugeot 205 GTI, especially in Miami blue as per RoverJames's recommendation and Peugeot 106 Rallye (loved the stripped out, no frills, hit the back roads, leave more powerful cars standing appeal of them, if that kind of makes any sense). Vauxhall Cavalier GSI, and Vauxhall/ Opel Calibra. Absolutely anything at all with a Cosworth badge on it. Honda CRX (1983 - 91) and Toyota MR2 (1989 - 99) which I reckon is approaching absolute zero on the cool scale!
