I always go to the gym with a friend of mine. I find that I would do more when I'm there with him, and I feel we both motivate each other.

the only way i can stay motivated in the gym is with some company, to me the gym is such a boring place i need someone there to entertain me. a little friendly competition, some one to chat to is far better then music(and the pain in the arse of having to carry a media player around) in my opinion.
see if any of your friends are in the same gym or looking to join one or try make friends with some one in the gym around the same fitness level and after the same goals as yourslef

Make sure you bring the right friend. One mate of mine just wants to go to the jacuzzi/sauna after 10 minutes of chest presses and spends the rest of the session trying to convince me to give up.

Yeah having a bit of company would prob push me to my limits and it wouldnt be such a bore, currently none of my mates are intrested in the gym so its tough to find somone. Hopfully ill get chating to somone on the same level as myself. Last time that happend tho the person tryed to hit on me the freak. Lets just say i wouldnt be talkin to him again :)

Watch a film or something while doing cardio. I use format factory to convert movies to 3gp (for your phone).

On that note, I have recently been glued to watching Come dine With Me on Channel 4 on Demand when doing a session on the spin bike. It's fair addictive.

maybe you could try other things to get in shape that you might enjoy-sports-hill walking-boot camps etc-it doesnt have to be a punishment! :)

Whats your current program like and how long have you been doing it OP?

I used to do starting strength (squats, deadlifts, military press and bench press) for a while, same thing week in week out. Got very bored of it and so would give up after few weeks, then go back in and do it again for few weeks & repeat.

I've since found the key to keeping motivated is changing up your program. I get a new program every six weeks from Transform and it's great, I work away at it and whenever I start to get bored of it, I know I'll be doing something different in a couple of weeks so just push through it.

I read a tip that has helped me quite a bit.

When you are doing cardio then to push yourself that little bit harder, count to 100 when you are just about to give up and it will keep you going.

Works for me! It distracts your mind from feeling tired.

If you're in kingfisher and train during the day/at weekends I'll do a session with you some time provided you're not stronger than me.

Just like going solo and doing my own thing. Not into competitions or anything like that. I do just fine training by myself.

Watching athletes keeps me motivated. Usain Bolt sprinting, football players etc etc

Just started a new prog end of oct, so its not the progam. Dec tho wasnt great with exams and finishing college for x-mas so will be hitting the gym again from next week. The current program as a lot of free weights involved, havent the program on me but there are shoulder presses, bench press, dead lifts etc so its not to bad.

Thanks for that , yup train during the day and eves but the only prob i am in the kingfisher in renmore. I wouldnt say id be as strong as ya though.

I train with and without partners.
Every workout for me is different, mix it up.
When I train alone I have the iPod in listening to music that gets me going.

You have to really want to go to the gym not to loose motivation.

I trained solidly for the last 3 months for a knockout match (court sport) I had today.

    1 month of spinning/weights
    1 month of weights/shuttle runs/footwork drills/playing
1 month of playing/conditioning using circuits

    and how did I do???
fcuking useless. worse than ever, even when I didn't train properly.

    what do I do now...

Standing in the mirror looking at the awesomeness that i am is all the motivation i need. But seriously it is the results that get me motivated. And you don't need somebody ripped to shreds staring back at you. Know your body and you'll notice the improvements no matter how slight.

    sorry, was playing handball.
    just did not perform
    made so many mistakes
    Its depressing!

3 most helpful things for getting motivated for me are

    1. Having defined goals (e.g. weight loss? big muscles? strength? being able to run a marathon?)

    2. Keeping a notebook with me and tracking progress

    3. Having a good partner with me. I have a great gym buddy now, but I used to go to the gym with a friend who just wanted to chat and do nothing

I also find that changing my goals from "getting muscular" to "getting strong" has helped, as I can see the results more clearly and I'm not disappointed when I don't see Arnie looking back straight away when i look in the mirror

no. in the last month played lots of games and did good bit of practice on my own.
slowly stepped down the amount of physical training and had increased amount of handball.
was playing well in training against opponents.
thought I was in great shape too.
Oh well. 3 months effort ruined in 90 minutes!
