In the market for a new laptop after the hinges of my 4 and a half year Asus workhorse gave up. Still works, just needs to be propped up and not moved at all :pac:

    So:
Budget: €1,000 max (not a target :pac:)
Intended use: High-end, but not really a gamer (certainly not the latest stuff). I work in IT and have my own projects, so needs to be able to run heavy-duty IDEs (Eclipse, Visual Studio) alongside a memory-hungry Firefox with lots and lots of tabs open. Also tend to watch a fair amount of multimedia on it, so something easy on the eyes, and would like a decent screen resolution
Mobility: 15" to 17". Wouldn't go smaller or bigger.
    Warranty: Not important
Operating System: Windows 7 (at least "Home Premium" level)

I was looking at this Asus N53JN (sorry about the language, the irish site doesn't have the spec on it). Seems like a good machine for the price, but there are some concerns about the screen on review sites. I'm way out of the loop on graphics cards, what's the Nvidia in it like? Decent mid-range? Or should I be looking at an ATI?

Also, the last time I was buying a laptop, laptopsdirect.ie was the best value. Looking at it now it seems to be poorly priced. What are the best sites to be looking at for a decent selection and value?
