Hi all, just looking on some advice on what to eat before training,

Normally id eat dinner as soon as I get home from work 6.30 approx but Ive just started rugby training, 7.30-9.00, and did this on Tuesday.... bad idea as I was lucky to keep it down :o

Im starving when I get home so I need to eat something, even something light till I get home or till next morning,

    Any advice?

    Cheers

I don't eat solids before strenuous work outs, rather prefer a blended drink of yogurt, soy milk, fruit, and protein powder.

Not sure if yogurt would be a good idea for me but fruit sounds good. Anything in particular?

I vary the flavour day-to-day so that I don't get bored with the taste, sometimes with oranges, or bananas, or mangoes, or strawberries, or pineapple, or a combination, and when feeling naughty, I'll toss in a bit of chocolate syrup or cocoa. This pre-workout liquid snack gives me a bit of quick energy, and replenishes anticipated water loss somewhat (although I do keep water handy during workouts).

Oh, I forgot to mention honey, which is a natural sweetener I use frequently too, or organic blue agave nectar just to vary the sweetness.

Something else I forgot... Often I toss in a bit of wheatgerm.

I cant eat for a few hours before rigorous exercise, so I understand where you are coming from.
You need to plan your eating for the day. My plan is to make sure to eat a good meal earlier in the day, and a smaller lighter meal in the evening, an hour or more before training.
I find carbs are better. Protein makes my stomach churn when training.,

I went for the fruit approach last night, ate 2 oranges and an apple about an hour before training, it seemed to go OK but last nights wasnt as hard since we have a match tomorrow,

I was starving by the time training was over but d mother had dinner waiting :)

I don't like to train on a full stomach either, but I find a banana is plenty to keep me ticking over until I can have dinner.
