Heating in gyms :(

My local gym has been turning the heat up really high for the past few weeks.
It's okay for the first minute, but after one set it's just rotten.

What's the reason for having heating turned on when everyone is killing themselves doing weights, cardio, etc and as result body core temperature is elevated.

The cynical side of me says this is a ploy to keep turnover of people happening at premium time during the busiest month of the year.

I don't think it's a "ploy" or anything but I do think it's unnecessary - I don't see why they don't turn it down a bit, especially at peak time when there's enough body heat in there anyway, and save themselves a few quid.

Id say it could be for the benefit of whoevers sitting behind the desk if my experience of a previous gym was anything to go by. The heat would hit you as the fat arse behind the desk sat reading heat or some other rubbish.
1st thing Id do going in the door would be open the windows as wide as possible and then give them a smile while walking back past them :D

Meh, its mid summer here. Even with heat off its roasting, up the A/C imo

My gym can be overly cold!

I think 16c is ideal when working out.

My gym is basically outside, it's freezing when it's cold out and roasting in the summer.

at least when its cold you can wear more layers and take them off as you need-if its too warm theres not much you can do about it.
One thing Ive noticed in my new gym is a couple of Indian guys that workout from start to finish in shorts and a vest-only thing is the gyms that cold that I barely sweat in there while wearing 2 t shirts and a hoodie-and Ive a tendancy to feel the heat before most people

Would you not ask them to do something about it? Especially if there is a consensus in the gym that it's too warm?

I'm not sure about general consensus. Maybe I have undiagnosed hyperthyroidism.

Also high temperature seems in keeping with all the lads that walk around with several layers of t-shirts, full tracksuits with hood up and jacket over while doing bench pressing and other exercises (and sweating like pigs). Yesterday I saw one lad on the rowing machine with a cut out bin liner under his several layers

Am I missing out on some ground-breaking research ?

Nope. They're just the hardcore guys from the Annoying Gym Behaviour thread! It may have died but they live on :)

em, maybe he was actually cutting weight.
People always assume, the person is an idiot when they see this.

If they are 2 stone or more over weight, probab an idiot.
If they look like they are in shape, they are prob cutting

How good an idea is it to be doing relatively intense exercise if you’re trying to cut weight, because presumably you’re no more than 24-48 hours out from a fight, running on reduced kcals and water and energy levels at a minimum?

If they’re a 0.Xkg over then fair enough, but if they’re trying to cut several kg by doing exercise and not just manipulating water levels in the week leading up and sitting in the sauna then they’ve probably f*cked things up already.

And a lot of people ALWAYS train in that gear. Which is just f*cking stupid.

gotta get it out somehow, some people cycle in that gear in the sauna if cutting desperately, even the pro's can get it badly wrong, i think jake shields had to cut 15-20 lbs within 48 hours of his fight with martin kampmann.

You'd be talking about 1kg from sweat suits, prob the last bit so that you are low for as little time as possbile.
The rest of the cut is just water manipulation and sauna as you said.

a colonic would prob be a better option that trying to cut several kilos

Obviously, there would be inj the idiot camp

Shields cut 15-20 lbs for the fight, and it was a brutal cut as it was his first fight at WW, but i really don't think he did it in within 48 hours of fight (which would only gives him 24h to cut). I'd say he was cutting for 5 days
