Up until now i've been doing f*ck all cardio due to the fact that I just really hate running and cycling.

Decided to buy myself a skipping rope today and when I got home I did a few minutes with it, a horrible, all over the place exhausted few minutes but it was great craic and found it far more fun than running.

What are your opinions on which one is generally better for your cardio, joints, muscles etc?

I don't want to know about "fat loss" or calories, thanks :)

Do something you'll stick it. If you enjoy it more than running, keep at it. Skipping or "jumping rope" as as the yanks call it is a great way to burn calories. Start slow, but you need to ramp up the RPM... get quicker and there's loads of videos on youtube to get you started.

When you get better at skipping it's just not that hard and is probably better as warm up tool as opposed to actually basing your workout around it

It might be fun because your only learning but I don't skipping for 30 mins to an hour would be quite as fun. It gets quite boring and I don't think it would have a great cardio effect once your able to string 100+ together but I could be wrong.
