Powder form vitamins - measure mg?

Ordered some power form vitamins and supplements from myprotein.
But it seems they don't ship with a measuring spoon/cup.

They sell measuring spoons and the one i want is only 0.30, but it'd cost 5€ postage so a total waste of money to buy separately.

The back of one bag says to take 1g daily, but how should gauge that?
The only other measuring spoons i've found at chemists measure ml, which is not the same thing as mg.

I had a similar thing with them regarding creatine-if you email them telling them the volume of your scoop theyll advise you how much will be in it

I bought a scales on dealextreme before that's accurate to the nearest 100mg. Cost me about 7 euro including delivery if I remember correctly. After a while you can more or less guess it.

Get a capper if you're going to be doing this long term.

Oh god no. The cost : benefit ratio with cappers just aint worth it IMO. I have one and I'm just not arsed after about 3 uses of it. Having gotten used to volume / weight I just throw whatever powder it is into a drink or shake.

Not a bit of a pain in the hole for work and stuff? I used to have one and I found it great. I would prepare a load once a month and that would do me. Scooping just reminds me of filling bottles with SMA... shudder

Ah I'm still in baby milk territory. :) For work I have a spoon that takes about 1.5g in it, give or take so I judge based on that. I don't really need to the nearest 100mg accuracy I suppose. We have a kitchen in work, so I do keep various powders in my own little press. People think I'm a nut job, but that's unavoidable given the lifestyle differences anyway.

A spoon should really only have ml on it, its a volume and a ml of water will be the same as a ml of alcohol, but they will have different weights. So you would need individual spoons for different substances -this is why you will not get a spoon saying mg (unless it comes with a product, in which case it is still just an estimate).

A pint of popcorn kernels will weigh more than a pint of popped popcorn. The shape of containers will effect it too, e.g. you will probably fit more eggs in a pint glass than in 2 half pint glasses. For fine powers it is better of course.

This is why I do not like using volumetric guesses to find out what something weighs. Even using the same scoop if your protein was compacted it would weigh more per given volume

You can get a cheap mini scale on ebay for about €10. If you have a kitchen scale which is less accurate at lower wegihts then you can also get an estimate, e.g. find a dedicated spoon you will use, now dump out 20 spoonfulls onto the scale. If it weighs 40g you know 1 spoon is about 2g.

I made my own antacid tablets, I got a mini icecube tray and wetted baking soda into a paste and smeared it into the trays and let it dry out.
