My sound went yesterday on the laptop.

I've had issues with it before but can't remember how i fixed it the first time.

Anyway I'm running an Acer aspire 5738G with a realtek sound card.

All settings and troubleshooting have been check and the system tells me everything is ok.

Currently there is no sound but the microphone works however when i plug headphones into the jack i get sound through the speakers and headphones but then the microphone stops working.

    Annoying

Any help, its obviously just a setting but very frustrating trying to fix it

either the sound card is fecked, or the software controlling it is fecked. I know those realtek sound cards always have a little application running in the system tray, they sometimes do crazy things. Windows 7 also does some crazy stuff like that. If you right-click the sound icon in teh tray, go to playback devices, and check that your speakers are set as the default device. If you play some music at the same time you should see the bars moving up & down too. if messing about with that doesn't do it, i'd reinstall the sound drivers.

I found out what is wrong.

It appears the jack for the headphones speakers is loose and if it moves the sound goes.

Weird but now that I know what it is I'll be able to sort it
