I had called in to the Henry Street Meteor Store on Monday looking to use a Groupscheme voucher I had picked up here to get 25% off a monthly billpay deal. (Cheers OP). Didn't need it though ;)

Well I was informed that for the month of January they are offering the Billpay Smart Lite €30 PM month to month contract SIM for €20 PM for 12 months. Includes 200 mins & texts to any number. 1 Gig PM Data. Also within five days of connection you'll receive free Meteor to Meteor calls and texts for up to 12 months :)

    http://www.meteor.ie/plans/bill_pay/smart/#plans-tab
(Bottom of webpage, €25 PM online)

    :D

Oh right, so this is only available in-store? Strange that the in-store is cheaper as their website is all about the 'online is cheaper!'.

The €25 p/month is very competitive compared to the competition (although still a little on the pricey side I'm sure we'd all agree :P), but at €20 p/month it's getting better.

Any restrictions mentioned? (e.g. must be porting from another network, min of 6 months, etc. etc.)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 523 ✭✭✭WIZWEB

Yeah so much for cheaper online! Minimum contract is one month :) I wasn't told I had to port but did port from Three Prepay. Deposit may be required though. I was informed €300 to be returned to my bank after the 7th bill payment but argued that I had been quoted €50 recently when I was going to take it up a couple of months ago online. I read the contract through before signing and it said €50 deposit required. I showed them this. They checked with a manager and €50 is what I paid ;)

I rang Customer Care earlier to confirm as stated €30 PM on the contract and they confirmed it will be €20 PM for 12 months :)

I was only in there on Monday and was quoted 30 euro.

Gemma looked after me. She was informed of this deal by another female staff member when I enquired about the Groupscheme offer ;)

I was told by one shop today that it was/is €20, and told by another that it was/is €30...both Meteor shops an' all!

I'll sign up for it if it's €20.

I then told him the OP got it for €20 in Henry St so he rang and confirmed that in was €20 p/m til the end of the month! Any store apparently. Im gonna head down and sign up, cheers OP!!

Since this is a monthly contract, would there be any way current customers on the smart lite plan could get on this reduced amount?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 399 ✭✭Dermot2468

Does anyone know if this is available for current meteor payg customers?

Yep, I recently got that phone, its excellent. Any specefic questions, just ask me.

If you go for this 20 euro deal you wont be able to get this phone though(from Meteor- unless you pay full price for a pay as you go one) as that plan is a sim only plan-you must supply your own phone..

I'm also wondering if this is open to existing customers, (I'm a billpay customer).

I can't see them turning you away because you are a PAYG customer.

Bill pay might be a different story.

Are you tied into a 12 month contract or is it like other sim only plans that you can cancel with 30 days notice?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,014 ✭✭✭Soarer

Dunno how true it is, or whether wires are being crossed, but...

I just rang my local Meteor store there, and they said the €20 offer for the month of January doesn't include the data allowance of 1gb!

So it's either €20 per month without data, or €30 per month with data.

I was informed it does instore, I've got the 1GB download limit and I phoned to clarify I was on the €20 PM tariff.

I telephoned Customer Care a while back and asked exactly what I'm getting for €20 PM. She outlined everything including data as I expressed in my first post!

So where should I go to get the offer? I am in Dublin

I'd be very interested in this...but I want to get a htc desire phone aswell. Can I do so using this deal, or do I have to buy the phone separately?

    Thanks!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,601 ✭✭✭Kotek Besar

Might as well get an Orange San Francisco and unrock it. Much cheap and it's a bostin phone.

This deal is for the sim only 'lite' package, so you'd either need to move up to one of the longer term contracts (e.g. not the 'lite' version, which has a 30 day rolling contract) or purchase the phone separately.

Sounds like the OP has done well out of some confusion within Meteor.

I've rung CS and the Henry St store and been told there's a web deal for €25 inc data and there's a store deal for €20 excl data

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 250 ✭✭Bruno Batista

Yeah, was just in the shop on Grafton St. the guy almost laughed at me when I mentioned the 1 gb allowance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,383 ✭✭✭peckerhead

Online discount and free Meteor to Meteor calls and texts apply for 12 months.
This looks like a good way to get lots of people off those "Free texts for life" PAYG plans. ;)

With more smart phones offering free web texts and various other ways to communicate, I can't see this being a major factor/benefit for them (I'm not saying it's not in their thoughts, just that I as a user am changing how I use my phone so wouldn't suffer hugely by losing it).

Unfortunately it appears that you are tied in for 12 months.

Edit - seems Meteor have changed their T&C for this offer....

I'm on that e30 Meteor Smart Lite plan atm (sim-only). Called up to see can I switch to the new rate of 25e as per the online offer (as there's actually no facility for existing customers to switch online), guy said no, it's only for non-meteor customers.

Considering the plan allows you to leave at a months notice, feel a bit hard done by that I can't switch. I could port to another network today, and switch back tomorrow, saving 12xe5 for the year, but a lot of hassle. Defeats the point of a footloose contract if it excludes you from switching to cheaper offers when they come along.

I was told today that i could only avail of this deal if i paid a €50 deposit which i would get back after 5 months, eh i don't think so, im with Meteor on pay as you go since the company started and i wasn't expecting to be asked for a bloody deposit,i may go elsewhere after this, ill call them first to express my dissapointment.

I see three in the UK are offering 600 cross network minutes+1 gb a month for 15£ on a 12 month sim only contract or 20 on a rolling contract!

Thats pretty ridiculous alright. I can sort of see the point if it was a 12/18 month contract (and even then it's a fairly annoying inconvenience but for a 1 month contract thats ridiculous. I mean what if you decide to cancel after 2 months?
I've just after signing up for the €25 a month plan online. Havn't been asked for anything like that as of yet but only just sent my documents/contract (by email) to them the other day. Slightly off topic but anyone know how long it takes to get the sim? I'm on payg O2 atm and have 0 credit and been holding off getting some thinking i'd have been on meteor by now! The online applications seem to take forever.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,323 ✭✭✭Dr Nic

Can i do this online and still keep my 087 number?
Will i be a few days without being able to make a call while my new sim is being delivered?
    Thanks

Edit - is it still 20per month in store? Any stores in Limerick?

As long as you're not currently on Meteor, yes.

No, just a few minutes usually.

That's why I can't figure out why people are going to so much trouble when they can walk into a store and walk out with everything done on the spot.

Sometimes it's cheaper to buy things off them online than it is to go into the shop.

I went in to ask about the 50 euro plan reduced to 40 euro and they said they could offer the reduction in the shop I would have to ring up and send details by post .....So I went across the road and signed up for another network

€25 online as opposed to €30 a month in-store. A saving of €60 a year which is considerable when you're a poorly student like myself! :p

Do Meteor have a service where you can check minutes/data used real time (Similar to 3)?
