Free Sky+ Box, free connection plus €100 cashback

Just noticed Fatcheese have a new offer for Sky this month. They're offering €100 cashback for Sky+ and €135 cashback for Sky+HD.

Similar to what they've had before but Sky have a special offer where they're offering the Sky+ box plus standard connection for free which saves you €79.

    SKY+
The cost of the lowest Sky package = €23 per month x 12 = €276.
Sky+ Box plus set-up is free.
Total cost of the package for the year is €276.

    €276 - €100 cashback = €176 which is €14.67 per month

SKY+HD (not as good as before)
The cost of the lowest Sky package = €23 per month x 12 = €276.
    HD Pack = €15 per month x 12 = €180.
Sky+HD Box plus set-up is free.
Total cost of the package for the year is €456.

    €456 - €135 = €321 for the year which is about €26.75 per month

I've now received my cashback for taking up the offer back in November so this definitely works!

    Seems a very good deal.

Doing the maths helps us smarties :p

I took up the offer when the cashback was only €60 and I had to pay a set-up fee which is slightly annoying.

But €60 is better than nothing!

I'm currently with Chorus but channels freeze sometimes and Sky+ is meant to be better experience I've heard.
    Have to check
how much sky charge for installing 2nd box in another room (with just basic Sky, not Sky+) and
how much per month extra for the 2nd box
    what's the storage on a sky+ box (it's 80gb with Chorus).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 279 ✭✭Eoinite

The boxes they now give you are Sky+HD ones so that you can upgrade to HD at any time.
Get even more storage space with the Sky+HD 1TB box. With one terabyte of personal storage, it can store up to 240 hours of high definition television - that's 4 times more than our latest Sky+HD box.

So according to that the Sky+HD box is 250GB.

For multiroom the extra standard box is free as well but there's €10 extra per month .

I was looking into joining up with Sky so thanks for the heads up.

Does anyone know if these offers are available through Sky's shared dish system? I live in an apartment block and Sky have recently installed their shared dishes - would be very interested in switching if I could avail of this offer at the same time!

Can't see why they wouldn't be as, all that's needed is a bigger LCB.

Cheers. A tenner extra a month seems a lot, €5 with Chours. I'll try to haggle...

Am I right in thinking you also need a landline for the box to be connected to (or as a condition to installing a box)?

Sounds like a good deal... but I don't have a landline (and don't need one either) - hence my asking.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,036 ✭✭✭BArra

you need a landline for multiroom, for a single box u can pay a fee of 35 euro i believe if you have no landline.

    ===

    question:

if i order sky as a new customer, and also take multiroom

the first box is definately a HD box, but what about the standard box for the multiroom, is that also a new black HD box or do they give you one of the old white non HD boxes...?

    anyone know?

The second box is the standard white box which is free. If you want to upgrade to the HD box it's going to cost you €199 for that second box!!! So best just to go with the free one I guess.

interesting deal. Can you get any registered installer to do it or do they provide the installer who turns up at yer door?

I already have a sky dish up from previous owner but no land line. would i still have to pay a set up fee?

They send someone out to you for installation.

So if you take the basic Sky+ package, they give you a Sky+ HD box?
Would you be able to watch the free-to-air HD channels on it? That would be great!

Hmmm... when filling in online details it stops letting me proceed with the purchase 'online' when answering the question on if I live in premises not with shared dish & instead prompts me to ring them :(

Signed up before Christmas for the Sky +HD and a 2nd box through FatCheese. The status of the transaction is Pending with an Est. Award Date of Mar. I had to ring Sky after signing up online but I made it clear that I didn't want a new signup over the phone, just to continue with the order I had made online through the FatCheese link.

Anyone know if I need to contact FatCheese or just sit and wait and check back on their site in March?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 279 ✭✭Eoinite

My Est. Award Date said Jan but I got paid end of December which was earlier than expected :)

I didn't contact them any further. I was expecting Sky to call as was explained on the Fatcheese site so didn't think I needed to tell them about it.

is there anyway of getting sky mulitroom with no land line maybe with a different instillation company??? i don't see the reason why they need a land line

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,036 ✭✭✭BArra

no you need a landline for multiroom, there is no way around it

other wise you could give the second box to a mate and he would have a sky box that is only costing 10 or 15 euro a month

oh right the only reason why i'm asking is because my mate's got a second sky box in his kitchen which is never connected to the land line think its in about 2yr's now and never had any hassel from sky

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,036 ✭✭✭BArra

it probably only gets FTA channels and does not have any of his packs from the main tv

that or he has just run a cable to the second tv and its displaying the same stuff

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 279 ✭✭Eoinite

From what I understand they have to install it on a landline to activate the card. You could then take it off the phone line but after a while they may write to you saying you need to put it back on the line otherwise they will start charging you for two full subscriptions for the reason BArra states above.

Got that information via Google... not from personal experience.

If you want a new dish, take the current one down. If your current dish works, he'll leave it there and not give you a new one.

I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to Sky etc.

What's the story with the cashback exactly? :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,762 ✭✭✭peejay1986

We took Sky up on this offer in December. They told us about the free SKy+ box and free installation but never mentioned the cashback. Would I have a case if I called them back and asked for this?

Cashback comes from fatty cheese. Sky won't know about the cashback.

It's like Quidco in the UK. Do you know, since October 2007 I've earned a total of £641.30.

Sure can. But most of the merchants are UK based. Not all though. Even those that are, BT1 1AA helps for sneaky "UK only" ROI deliveries but it's a bit risky. Most things do come through.

Fatcheese has Irish retailers whereas I think Quidco is UK only.

Just a heads up I think the €100 cashback for Sky+ ends on Thursday so order quickly if you're thinking about it!

Is the box yours at the end of the 12 month contract and if I cancel with Sky will I still be able to use the box for FTA or will I have to get a new box?

With Sky, the box, dish etc are yours from day one. Without a Sky subscription a Sky box can still be used to receive Free To Air channels.

Thanks. Also if I have Sky+ and I cancel my subscription can I still use the record feature for the FTA channels?

Cannot. Sky+ facility requires active Sky sub.

Just noticed Sky sports news isn't on the basic packages

Also, is this all the channels in the packs or are there more you can tune in?

The blurb on the FatCheese site says "Cashback reduces to €67.50 on 14 January" for the Sky+ offer, nothing about reductions for Sky+ HD.

Eoinite, were you happy overall with the service, installation etc. from Sky and the refund from FatCheese, and do you have any connection to either? Strongly considering the Sky+ offer myself.

I'm a student so connection to either.

The whole process went just as expected really. I ordered via Fatcheese and Sky showed up on my statement after about an hour. Sky phoned me the next day to confirm the order. The installation was made on the date that was set and Fatcheese paid my cashback end of December.

    Hope that helps.

I've heard there's a sensor that you can buy which relays the signal from the Sky box across the house to other rooms. You can then change the channel from any room in the house that has the sensor in it although as it's a single Sky box you can only watch the one channel across the whole house.

Hopefully that makes some sense. Anyone know what it is?

It would mean that I could watch Sky from my bedroom as well without having to go multi-room.

Woah there! That sounds like something out of the movies! Man, that is some freaky shít! Nothing of the sort exists!

    Only joking.

Sorry. It's been a long day and I'm going insane with boredom.
