I am just keeping an eye out for one. Not mad keen to buy or anything, certainly don't need one.

What would those who know/have an opinion on recommend?

I would be setting myself a budget of say €400 or thereabouts and it would have to have a pickup. Personally I'd go second hand if the right deal came about.

Go for it. I've a 12 string that I don't play too often compared to the rest of my guitars but always enjoy playing it when I do.

Plus, you can do a great version of "breaking the girl" with it.

    Electric or acoustic?

If electric, I can't recommend the Danelectro '59 DC enough. I got one almost a year ago and it's just lovely. It keeps its tuning and intonation better than both my Fenders (though I think they need to be looked at) and it makes a great chiming jangle. I got mine on Thomann for about €315.

If acoustic, I'm not an expert but I have my friend's SX in the house at the moment and it does the job nicely. It was only about €180 and I'd imagine you could get something a bit better if your budget is double that.
