Vit K2 and Magnesium

I have decided to start the New Year with a renewed focus on my health. I suffer from infrequent bouts of anxiety/mild depression and unfortunately hit a bad patch over Christmas. Although feeling a lot better now, I'm realising how important it is to maximise health and keep a balance in my life to minimise the chance of future recurrance. In addition to a healthy diet, excercise and abstaining from alcohol for the forseeable future I have re-started supplementing with Vit D3 and Omega 3 fish oils. What other would be beneficial, in overall health terms, not neccessarily anxiety-specific or anything. I have read on this forum that some take Vit K2 and Magnesium aswell, what are the benefits of these supps?

L-theanine (the suntheanine brand) is excellent for low-level anxiety and is very safe at proper doses. Iodine and selenium are good for overall welbeing, you can get both from 3 brazil nuts/day(selenium) and seaweed (add a handful to stew).

1g vit C as vitamin C is vital for good mental health and mood.

The book potatoes not prozac also recommends a little carby snack before bed to improve overall mood, such as half a banana or potato. Also avoid veg oil like the plague.

Thanks for the reccommendations. What do you mean when you say '1g vitamin C as vitamin C'? Also, can you buy iodine as a supplement?

Sorry I reread your post 'as' meaning 'because', of course duh!

You can yep, I've heard iodoral recommended but haven't tried it myself. You can also get 7% iodine from the pharmacy (the kind you put on cuts and scrapes) and rub a 2" circle on your wrists to absorb it through your skin.

Make an effort to eat seaweed if you can though, it's packed with loads of other good things besides iodine. I know it's an acquired taste and I started off hating it, but Japanese restaurants are a good place to get used to it.

Thanks I have stocked up but I got calcium and magnesium tablets all-in-one, Sapsorrow tells me Calcium may be harmful as a supp, do you think I'd be ok to continue until that jar runs out and then just get the magnesium on its own?

Ca and Mg compete for absorption so they mightn't be too effective, but short term calcium supplementation wouldn't be harmful, especially when balanced with mg and K2.

I find GABA to be really benifical*. it's OTC but I usually get it on iherb.
