As far as I know, they start around 200 - the ones below that are reserved for people who pay money to get a 'nice' registration number - or at least I think that's how it works.

Dont they have to keep some of the earliest reg numbers in case there is a 1911 car still on the road?

Perhaps, but it could have been changed to the new style after 1987, or it could have been imported and registered in the new style.

An A5(probably 2.0 tdi) is your DREAM car?
WOW this recession is really lowering peoples standards.

I suppose car dealerships would only be reopening up today. I never understood this urge to get a brand new car at the beginning of the year. It is usually the crappest of drivers too, ime.

well when you put it like that no, probably not my DREAM car, but its a car I could realistically afford in the near future which is why I really want one. My DREAM car would probably be a bugatti or something but that just aint gonna happen!!

I'd like to see the gang in the motor tax office come up with the annual tax on that - a few of those in the country could pay down the national debt!........can you get Nama to take over your car I wonder??

Well most Bugatti's would qualify for classic tax so would be extremely cheap to tax!

My father, if getting a car, would usually get it with the new years reg, after having maybe bought it in November. The reason for not getting it in November is that in 2 months, the car will be seen as a year old, and thus loose a good bit of it's value.
