4 miles easy recovery run today. Not as slow as it should have been but it was lashing rain and windy so I just wanted to get finished. Haven't seen the prom so quiet in ages.

Isn't it just like the middle of bloody winter. Hopefully the weather will pick up for the end of October !

Its shocking alright, and this morning wasn't much better.

Keep the fingers crossed that we get a day like last year, was absolutely perfect.

Up early this morning to get the long run done. When the alarm went off and I looked out the window I just wanted to go straight back to bed. It was absolutely lashing down.

Was meetign a couple of others though so headed off out. By the time I was ready to go it had stopped raining at least but it was still fairly breezy.

Kept the pace nice and easy all the time. Felt pretty handy actually and never really found the going too tough. Could definitely have put on a few extra miles at the end but didnt want to put too much of a jump in the miles from last week.

Pleased with the run overall despite a few soakings.

Just a handy recovery run this evening. Legs were a little stiff from the week but not too bad. After a couple of miles I was tempted to pick the pace up but I managed to resist.

Last night was more of a relaxed tempo run than a serious speed session. Little bit of a step back week aparently. Have to say I wasn't complaining.

Nice to be running at a pace that wasn't making me weak :)

Back to the tough stuff next week though aparently.

No watch again today  Im getting really worried about my mind sometimes. Anyway same as the last few Thursdays 4 miles with the middle 2 at tempo pace. As I didnt have a watch this was more by feel then anything else but I was certainly feeling it towards the end.

Lovely day for it though sun was even out for a while :)

Horrible run today. Legs were sore all the way round and the weather was shocking. One of those ones that you just have to force yourself through and get it done.

Not had such a miserable run in a long time.

Up in the early hours again for a 7 o clock start this morning. A very slow and steady group LSR. Felt a little uncomfortable early on but once the legs warmed up and the brain got working I felt grand. Miles slipped away handy enough and definitely could have put a few more in again at the end.

A lot slower than last week though but I was only interested in getting the miles done today and didnt care about the pace at all.

Just an easy few miles this evening to help the legs recover from yesterday. Met with one of the lads who was out for his long run and joined him for a short loop. Legs were definitely feeling it from my long run but nothing too extreme.

Good weekly mileage again this week. Overall happy with how it went even though a few of the days were a bit of a struggle.

4 X 1 mile with 2 min recovery today. Pace was all over the place, should have been running 7:12s but was too fast on the first, just ok on the second way too slow on the third and too fast for the last. Just wasnt able to get into a consistient flow.

Still a worthwhile excersise and being able to pull out the fast one at the end was good. Just wish I could have put more into the third, felt as if I was giving it everythign though.

Long run yesterday morning. Plan was for 15 but wound up well over 16 in the end. Early miles were very slow but we picked the pace up nicely as we went along. Found trhe last couple of miles pretty tough though.

I'm starting to really like these early starts now. Can be tough dragging myself out of the bed at 6 but its great to be finished for the day before some people are even out of bed.

Went to the fair in Monivea this afternoon with the family and figured that I may as well run home instead of comign home and having to get changed and head out again. Reckoned that I would get off the main road though as it was busy and headed down the small country lanes. A real treat empty roads through forrest and bogland for 3 miles until I got back to civilisation again. I had often meant to run that way but always kept on the main road for some reason. Will definitely be working that stretch into some of my runs in future.

As for the run itself, took my time and apart from the legs being heavy there were no major problems.

Overall for the week a bit disappointed to only get out 4 days but the days I was out felt pretty good overall.

Tuesday was hill repeates. 8 reps of an approx .2 mile hill jogging back down in between. Felt tough enough and was wasted at the end of the last one but the longer recoveries definitely made it an easier feeling session overall compared to the likes of mile repeats.

Very easy warn up and warm down

Handy run at lunch today. With the half in Waterford at the weekend I'm not going to be doing anything hard for the rest of the week.

Legs were fairly heavy after last night and never really got any better. Hopefully another easy day tomorrow and rest on Friday will have me sorted for Saturday.

A good month put down for August. Mileage was nice and high and the quality of the runs were pretty good. Hopefully can put a good September together now as well.

Just planned a nice easy leg stretcher today. From the first mile though my lower calfs were absolutely killing me. Stopped at halfway and had a good stretch which did seem to help a bit but not an awful lot.

No more runing now until Saturday, hopefully the legs ease out or its going to be a long hard day.

Finally getting around to writing this. Had been hoping for a good run in this race and gettign under the 1:40 mark at the very least.
Unfortunately it wasn't to bee on the day. It turned into one of thise days that have you questioning why the hell we put ourselves through all the training.
For the first 2-3 miles everything was going perfect, I was travellign at a nice controlled pace approx 7:35 and felt really comfortable and confident. Within the space of a mile though it had all gone to pieces. No warning but I went from cruising along to being out on my feet in the space of a couple of strides. Never felt anythign coming on as fast before. The legs were gone and my breathign was ruined.

I did manage to keep a reasonable pace through to the half way mark but I knew it was just delaying the inevitabel. Once we turned back in towards the city again it was just a question of trying to get to the finish and not post a DNF.

I managed to get through it but certainly the confidence took a serious battering out there. Im hoping that it was a combination of small things that went wrong on the day, though I cant think what they were.

Fairly frustrating with my recent races in general though so hoping its not symptomatic of anythign lasting.

Mile and a half warm up before hand.

Tough session last night. Mile and a half warmup followed by 7.5 miles tempo run with warm down after. Found it pretty tough for the first few miles to keep on pace until I got some of the soreness out of the legs from the weekend. Route was fairly hilly and the wind was strong so it was hard to keep a steady pace. Concentrated more on keeping a good average. Overall happy enough with pace for the tempo session at 7:40. Its at the higher end of the range but given its by far the longest one done this year and its just a few days after a race I'm not complaining.

Warm up and down were seriously slow and easy.

4 miles today was supposed to be at an easy pace but for some reason I just kept letting the pace creep up. I dont know why because my legs certainly didn't feel very fresh. For some reason though the pace just felt nice and handy. How come that never happens when I'm racing.

Up early again on Saturday fr an 18 miler. the first 2 miles were really tough. the legs just didn't want to get going. Felt OK then for most of the rest of the run with a nice handy pace. I had decided on this run to do it with no water or gels just to see what it would take out of me. Really felt the need of somethign for the last 3 miles as the energy levels just seemed to drop away.

    Enjoyed the run overall though.

Last night way a Pyramid session at 5K pace. 3 min with 90 sec recovery, 5 min w 2 min recovery, 7 min w 3 min recovery, 5 min w 2 min recovery, 3 min

This was on the road again and with hills and wind it was hard to keep a constant pace so it was more a case of try and keep a constant effort. The second 5 min was particularly hard as it was uphill all the way and into the wind. The last one though was a lovely cruise downhill :)

    Interval paces
    6:52, 7:06, 6:42, 7:24 , 6:07

A tough session but it was manageable. This is going to be a hard week in general with an 8 mile tempo and a 20 mile lsr still to come.

Supposed to be a comfortable 5 miles today but my calfs were in absolute agony from the start. They haven't been this bad in a long time. Going to be lots of ice on them tonight and hopefully they will be in better shape tomorrow. If not its going to be a long painful 20 miles.
