:( Thanks for posting this Danny. I can honestly say he was the best doctor I ever visited. I went to him once 3 years ago and haven't gone to another since. Great guy, seriously intelligent and intuitive. Very sad to hear this. RIP.

    Crikey......

Best doctor in Maynooth. The only one of 5 doctors I went to who realised I had glandular fever and not some pissant sore throat.

    RIP

John Corish died on New Year's Eve following a house fire at his home near Clonee.

John was a personal friend of mine and will be sadly missed.

Originally from Carlow, he worked as a doctor in Carlow, Dublin, Portlaoise, London, Plymouth, Sydney and Maynooth.

He also was a former member of the Labour Party and stood for election in 2007 as an independent.

John loved horse racing, literature (especially Joyce) and history. He was great company and a generous and kind friend.

    RIP, Doc.

Dr Corish was someone I was never afraid to go to about any sort of ailment. He was easy to talk to and very kind. Hope his family take some comfort in knowing how loved he was by his patients and the wider community.

    RIP Dr Corish

I am devestated to hear of the death of Dr John Corish. John was the greatest example of what a family doctor is, he ran his surgury 365 days of the year and was the most reasonably priced Doctor in the locality.

He was extremely attentive and an excellent physician. His manner was always down to earth he really was a gentleman to go to there will never be another like him.

I hope some of the other GPs in maynooth will take a leaf out of his book. God Rest You John and God help Eithne and Emma xx

Very sad to hear this. He was the only person who told me I was overweight when I was and got me back to the gym and in shape. Will be sadly missed.

My god, such a nice man, he was so approachable and friendly I loved him. I'm so upset to hear this. Last time I saw him he was telling me all about his little daughter, he was obviously mad about her :(

Was anyone else hurt in the fire?

Never met the man personally, but by all accounts, a friend to the students of Maynooth, a great doctor, and a class act. RIP

Doesn't look like anyone else was injured.

A man has died following a house fire in Clonee, Co Dublin. The fire broke out at about 9pm on New Year's Eve at a property in Hunters Run.

A garda spokesman said the 50-year-old man was alone in the property at the time. He said the incident was not being treated as suspicious.

The man was taken to Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

John we will miss you. Thank you so much for your kindness and care particularly lately when I was darkening your door week in week out. Eithne and Emma were the lights of your life. We loved hearing you talk about Emma and your trips abroad with all of the doggies in tow. Eithne and Emma we are so very very sorry for your loss.

I can't believe this! Just found out 5 mins ago. Dr. Corish was such a lovely man, who understood the needs of everyone and always wanted to help. Whenever I went to him he'd tell me stories and talk to me like I was a friend, he also was the only doctor who actually could diagnose anything wrong me with me and even gave me a free prescription before! A really good man. Will be missed. RIP

I was shocked to hear about Dr Corish's death. Such a tragic loss to his family, friends and patients. I have been a patient of John and Eithne for some time and have never received such good treatment. You would have to travel far to find better. My thoughts are with Eithne and their daughter.

    May he rest in peace.

If anybody has any news or reports from the funeral, they would be much appreciated.
I am, sadly, in Asia and simply unable to attend John's last journey.

I was shocked and saddened to hear this news this morning... It's just so hard to believe. John was a great man- friendly, understanding and extremely reasonable with regard to what he charged people for his professional services!
I never visited a doctor like him before and he will be impossible to replace in Maynooth.
He was mad about his little girl and talked about her constantly. Last time I was in, just a week before Christmas, he showed me a picture of her and Eithne that he had framed. I can only imagine how sadly they will miss him.
Sincere sympathy to all his family and friends.

Agree with all the above. Best doctor and one of the nicest, most genuine people I've ever had the privilege of knowing.

He was such a nice man. I went to him regularly about two years ago and he was instantly likeable and made you feel very relaxed. I remember him also talking about his daughter, it was very obvious he doted on her. You couldn't ask for more in a doctor, he will be sadly missed. RIP

I am still in shock over this. I have been reading all the tributes and it seems that he was the same kind, generous and genuine person to everyone he encountered. I walked past the surgery yesterday and can't help but think i'll never go in there again and see his smiling face and feel instantly better.

    RIP Dr. John

You know it is not often you come by people like John and Eithne, I have always felt privileged to have them as my family G.P. When I got the news about John I was deeply saddened and I can only imagine the immense pain and grief his family are going through. I have never come across Doctors so welcoming attentive and friendly, John will be sorely missed by all his patients and community in Maynooth. Eithne may be comforted by knowing that all here in Maynooth are thinking of her and little Emma and hope that somehow they will have the strength to get through this. I just feel thankful that I have had a chance to meet this family.

    Gone but never forgotten.

To have known John, I feel blessed. To have worked for him, I feel privileged.

John and Eithne had done so much for me in the last two years. Two of the kindest, most generous people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Excellent doctors and truly caring people in every aspect. They were more than my work colleagues, they were my friends.

I'll cherish the fond memories I have of working alongside you both. I'll forever remember John's tales and quirky anecdotes. He'll always have a special place in my heart.

    Rest in peace, John

I was so saddened to hear this lastnight :( I always presumed when I move back to Kildare that he would be my doctor again. Such a lovely, kind, funny, sweet man and a great doctor. All of my old college friends and housemates in Maynooth went to him. RIP John. My thoughts are with his wife and little girl.

Also in shock here.Only heard this today at lunchtime.Hes been our family doctor for years and the best doctor Ive ever visited.

Was in with him Christmas week with one of my daughters and had him reading a thread here on boards that I pointed him towards while the surgery was full to bursting--Always loved that about him--he was never a quick in/quick out type Doctor..always made you feel that he actually cared about his patients.

    RIP.

I only heard about this last night and I am still in shock. John was by far the best and most caring doctor I've ever met. He was brilliant everytime we brought our kids in and was always talking about his own little girl Emma. My thoughts are with his family.
    Rest in peace John.
