The Swan Leisure Centre? Don't know about the student discount but it's right in the centre of everything.

The RAW Gym, though not quite in Rathmines, is another good one. Great facilities.

Again I'm not sure about the student discount. (just spotted on the website there that they do)

Is the RAW Gym far from Rathmines? I am not familiar with Dublin at all.

If you go down Rathmines, towards town, you cross the bridge over the canal, and now you're in Richmond St.

If you keep walking towards town, on your right hand side, when you pass the Bernard Shaw pub, you'll come to an alley way. The gym is down the end of the alley and through the gate, in a kind of warehouse building.

Swan Leisure you have to sign up for the year and it's done by direct debit, was planning on joining it myself but the 12 month wasn't for me.

You do? They didn't tell me this when I signed up. I'll have to follow up on this because I don't want to be locked into a 12 month contract either.

So is it a one-of payment or monthly payments? If it's monthly payments, is there any extra charge?

    Thanks.

That's according to my mate who looked into it, that it's a 12 month contract paid by direct debit.

You can do monthly or annual afaik, not sure it was my mate who went and sussed it out.

I'll pop in and find out once I'm up there.

If your looking for a serious, proper gym in the Rathmines area I'd look no further than RAW at Portabello (its practically Rathmines)..

And OP you'll forgive me if I move this over to the Fitness Forum, a few of the guys there have first hand knowledge of RAW.

    Regards.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Are there any personal trainers are RAW that can give good advice/help when it comes to starting out?

Believe it or not, but I've actually never used a gym, so not sure what exercises would suit me and I'd need to change my diet as well, so any help there would be great. Also, what price would I be looking at for once or two sessions/meetings/consultations with a personal trainer?

Thanks again for all the help, much appreciated.

There are a few available in there, some better than others from what I've seen. COH, who posts here would be your best bet in there but unfortunately he doesn't do actual paid PT work and he's only there part time.

I'd recommend dropping Jayroc a pm; he's a PT who posts on here too and works out of RAW - you definitely won't go wrong with him:).
