Waist-Loss

    Hi,

    I've got a scenario that I'm hoping some of the more experienced people here could weigh in on (puntastic);

    Bit of a background, I'm in my early 20s and I was always very slim as a child / teenager. Typically wasn't very active as a teenager, no sports or anything, ate plenty of junk food (not an absurd amount) but always remained very thin.

    In the last two years or so I've noticed my metabolism slowing down (as I expected it would). I'm 5'9". Before it slowed down I was a solid 10st 3lb, then after it first crept up to 10st 9lb. It stayed around there with my current lifestyle (plenty of unhealthy greasy food, lots of beer) for a year or so. In the last year I've noticed it starting to creep up.

    I eventually hit 11st and decided to hit the gym (at the beginning of Summer 2010). Being unfit to begin with it took me a while to get going properly, but I ended up doing 20 minutes cardio (10 minutes on the bike about 100 calories, 10 minutes on the treadmill about another 100) and a bunch of weights. At first I gained weight, up to 11st 6lb (muscle mass I suspected). This levelled off to 11st 2lb.

    I continued gymming it 3 times a week for about 12 weeks total. I wasn't really happy with the result, as my waist was still 33" whereas it was 30" a couple of years previous.

    Anyway, things got the in way, college etc... and I stopped going. So here I am now. My waist (measured at the point which would give the maximum reading, no sucking in the gut) is 34". About two weeks ago I thought screw this, I'll do some dieting. I was at 11st 3lb then, I'm now down to 10st 12lb but no waist change.

    I'm aware of the methods for losing weight due to calorie deficit (My recommended intake is ~1700, I've been eating over 15% less than that on average). It seems to be working but my waist flab is going nowhere. I have no time for exercise (I know this is a cliché excuse but I actually don't) so I want to lose it purely by dieting. My BMI is a perfect 22.5 but my waist to height ratio is just below 50%.

    Advice?

    IMO A calorie deficiency isnt going to suit you long term as your not going to the gym and your not building any muscle (Upping you BMR . How many calories your body burns to function. )

    So as soon as you start eating the amount of calories you was before your gonna just put that weight back on .

    I would look at eating low GI / Low carbs. You can basically eat whatever you want and still loose fat .

    Your body Is constantly burning fat as a fuel by eliminating carbs.

    Eat a cheat meal once a week ie pizza etc and consume plenty of Meat and fish . Green veggies, eggs(Omega 3) Apparently Omega 3 is good for breaking down stubborn belly fat .

    A typical day should look like this

    Scrambled egg 4 and bacon

    Packet of sliced ham,Lettuce,peppers,and tomato salad.

    Coffe Or a piece of fruit Low GI ..... Apple , Strawberries. etc

    Steak ,200g broccoli and green beans , Vinaigrette sauce

    Peanuts.

    around 1800 Kcals

    That sound doable.

    I will be able to resume gymming it some time next year, so I'm just looking for a diet adjustment that will stop me gaining weight / take down the current flab until then.

    And thanks for the sample day.

    <mod snip>
    and ill send you a shopping list of everything you can eat and a food template with a Nutrition Tip list .

    Its very easy to understand if you basically eat whats on the list and follow the rules then your loose a load of fat . And its not calorie counting so your not starving your body .

    Just put Ref free boards.ie and ill send you it .
