I'll probably sit in with the folks, watch an end of year review, then at the stroke of 12, we'll get up, all cross hands and sing Auld Lang Syne, then pop out to the front door, and wish all the neighbours a Happy New Year, whilst listening to the ships blowing their foghorns in Dundalk Port.

New years eve has to be the worst day in the year.

Hopefully i'll be lying in a dingy alley way in a drunken stupor having sh1t my pants, p*ssed myself and vomited violently with a fat prostitute rubbing her fanny juice into my belly button with her arsecheeks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,154 ✭✭✭Rented Mule

There's a rake of us who decided not to deal with all of the amateurs and bull **** that goes along with NYE. We're started having a 'Day One' party where we all get together and go on the drink on NYD free from all of the NYE headaches.

    Day One: It's for Professionals.

I'm with ye's lads. Can't stand new years. Everyone trying to force themselves to have fun and make it "the bestest night everererr!!!" so hard that they all look like they are either constipated or having a mild stroke. Has to be the most pretentious non-event on the calender. Turns normal people into some kind of prozac riddled soap opera actors. I'll be turning off my phone about 9pm, cracking open a bottle of whisky and playing guitar and watching movies until I pass out on the couch...... And I still bet I will have a more interesting and genuinely enjoyable night than the coat hanger smile zombies that will be crammed into the clubs.

Dying with the flu so Ill be sitting in. No loss really. Im one of these people that cant get artificially excited because a clock changes from 23:59 to 00:00.

Too many bad NYE experinces ranging from people going missing to waking up outside someones house miles from my home, will just stay in and have a few beers with the missus. Might get the ride too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,706 ✭✭✭120_Minutes

I have a date with my couch, a crate of beer and a half ounce.

That is unless the wife has other ideas.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 27,252 ✭✭✭✭stovelid

Sitting in because I have kids and having a a friend or two over.

Even if I could get out, I'd only go to the local or another house or maybe even go away anyway. Hate town on NYE.

Can you remember the coming of the Millenium? It was hyped up to the last- nightclubs were charging £200 entrance fees, the Savoy Hotel in London had been taking bookings since 1970. Joe Dolan played at Gleneagles in Co. Kerry and he had been booked since 1989!

So we imagined this was hoing to be an out of the world experience, we went to a house party organised by friends and was as usual a non-event.

We found out afterwards the pubs in the town had been quiet, the local nightclub got only a handful of revellers so had to abolish the £200 fee to their usual £10 to get more people in!

In fairness, I wouldn't mind going out but for obvious reasons I usually stay in with the family. I always hated the grind of going into town on NYE though: exorbitant prices; hell getting home; overcrowding and trouble.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,647 ✭✭✭thenightrider

Ill be heading out only 3 euro for all drink's why not :D beats what i paid last year in the write venue 20 euro in and then 6.50 a pint

It's just another day on the calendar for me. I'll be out but don't for one minute think i'll be forcing myself to have fun. I'll be drunk so the fun will just come naturally. Or unnaturally depending on your view of a few scoops.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,092 ✭✭✭✭eh i dunno

Heading out around 8 with the woman but am leaving around 12:05 as i aint spending hours waiting on a taxi :D

Woke up with a bit of a cough this morning. Medicine on the way, non-drowsy sort, will see how I feel later on. House party if I'm able.

Whats so fun about being in a packed club? You won't be able to hear what anyone is saying unless your roar at each other. But doing so will make your throat sore and hoarse within about 10 minutes, in which case you will reach a point where you and your mates are basically just standing there in silence for most of the night, pretending your really into the music or something.

You will also be getting elbowed every 2 seconds and pushed out of the way every 5 seconds so someone can get past.

Then some pr1ck who is off his tits will come over to your group and with his arms in the air, he will bump into a few people and will be roaring like a maniac with a glazed look in his eyes. His expression will suddenly change to a serious one, he will hold out his hand and want to shake the hand of everyone in your group. Once that is over his expression will change back to the glazed look, his hands will go back in the air, he will start roaring again and make his way towards the dancefloor while everyone in your group is thinking what a knobhead.

Then you'll go to the bar to get a drink which will mean queing up for at least an hour. A few drunk twatheads will push in front of you, in which case you have a choice of having a row with them or letting it slide. Then when you get near the front of the queue the bloke in front of you who is ordering will have a neverending order, usually something like 5 pints, 5 cocktails, 5 shots, 5 whiskeys.........Eventually when he has got all his drink he will be handing it out to his mates who are over your shoulder, inevitably half the drink will fall on you, usually its the stickiest drinks like the shots which will fall on you.

I could go on but that is basically what you have got to look forward to tonight. I really can't figure out why people try to kid themselves that they are having a good time when they go to these places.

Home with the family for me, take away around 9 then drinks til about 1 or 2.. then head to the leaba full and happy ;)

Haven't been out for NYE for 16 years, since my eldest daughter was born....could never get babysitters, so had no choice!

Still, it's nice just to chill with some champagne, watching Jools Holland and snuggling up in front of the fire with people you care about :)
