5 mpg around Mondello, definitely. More like 15-20mpg in normal driving.

no not at all....well maybe the mondello one..but an evo with a remap should be seeing in around those figures

    28mpg motorway driving (off boost)

your saying a 120kph in 5th gear an evo 5 will do 28 mpg?

is this the same car we are talking about?

yes 28 mpg from motorway driving off boost

Your mpg counter is broken dude :D

Do you have yours mapped to stay off boost under light acceleration or something?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 814 ✭✭✭JerCotter7

It would be possible off boost. But is it possible to stay off boost?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,314 ✭✭✭Technoprisoner

as much as everyone thinks evo drivers dont drive flat out everywhere...in fact we probably stick to the speed limit more often than anyone else as they stick out a fair bit and the Garda just love to pull evos lol but usually you get about 22 miles per gallon usually anywhere between 220 and 240 miles from a tank (tanks about 55 liters) on motorways especailly on really really long journeys you tend to relaxe stick to the limit and stay off boost you will get about 28 mpg.... now in fairness that very rarely happens lol but is doable

not at 120kph unless you have a woefull final drive ratio.

    explain that to me?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 941 ✭✭✭hairyman

If you have any concerns about MPG/economy, then the Evo 5 simply is not the car for you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,160 ✭✭✭bmw535d

    explain that to me?

so what revs would an evo(yours) do at 120kph.(motorway speed)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,314 ✭✭✭Technoprisoner

probably about 4 thousand but what has revs got to do with boost?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,160 ✭✭✭bmw535d

+1 bad question if your considering an evo..its a weekend car nothing else unless your a mechanic and own shares in topaz as they need serviced every 5000 miles and drink petrol at the speed of an elephants trunk drinking water after a drought.

so at 4000 revs at say a quarter throttle you reckon an evo would be off boost? as in less that 0psi?

wise up. you cant just turn off the turbo you know.your mpg figures are wrong. simply.

You couldn't run an EVO on Topaz fuel, sweet Jesus man...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,314 ✭✭✭Technoprisoner

they need an oil change every 4500 . i use edge sport so about €70 including filter ...diff oils and ayc need doing once a year

i will try explain this to you....boost is not rev related.... it is load related

if you are crusing at 4000 revs and maintaining a regular speed the turbo is not going to create boost. as soon as you accelerate it will generate boost. for example i can drive my car up to 70mph maybe more (ive never tried) off boost...revs do not equal boost

unless you got it mapped for irish fuel(95ron) then you could run it no problem, couldn't you?

provided your not getting any detonation.

if its mapped for it yes you can...but cars mapped on 95ron make maybe 10 or 20 hp less

well its really not the petrol as the energy contained in petrol (35 MJ/L) actually drops the higher the octane rating, however higher octane rated petrol (100 ron) decreases the chances of pre detonation which in turn allows for higher compression and boost which creates more power.

and how long would it take you to get to 70mph off boost with no load on the engine?

an evo will not do 28mpg, you shouldn't lead the op astray telling him it will.

yes the higher the ron the more it inhibits pre ignition/det. thats why maxol e5 is better to run on turbo charged cars...bio ethonal is a very good inhibitor of det alowing you to run more igniton in the map

it will do it trust me...ive had to break in an engine after a rebuild before lol

and no its not misleading if you are being very conservitive you will get 28mpg ;)

    Fair enough,

However, conservative people do not buy Evo 5's.

i know i agree with you...but sometimes need must

for example at this years japfest a few friends came down from up north, they made it down to mondelo and back up to belfast on the one tank. they have to conserve their fuel as they would be mapped for super unleaded. now they could of filled up at newry but thought they would see how far they would make it and well they made it to belfast lol

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,160 ✭✭✭bmw535d

seriously what is the point in buying an evo to be so frugal with the loud pedal?

an evo owner will rarely see anything over 25mpg and never see 28mpg,
how to you calculate your mpg anyway?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,314 ✭✭✭Technoprisoner

ok...you still dont believe me check post 13 in this thread http://lancerregister.com/showthread.php?t=339654&highlight=japfest

and im sure it wasnt all conservitive driving as one of the lads was talking about flames coming out of his exhaust lol

My old Evo 5 with full turbo back exhaust system, relocated air intake and EcuTek remap would cruise at 120kmph no problem off boost.

    ohh no way....
    any pics of it man?

any idea of the mileage on it or if the same guy that bought it from me owns it?

i sold that with 20k on it, thats the one that got away, wish i still had it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,520 ✭✭✭Tea 1000

I know two people who owned an Evo 4 for a year or two. Neither could get any better than 16mpg with careful driving. Both bought a second cheap diesel for day to day driving after a few months!
If an Evo can do 28mpg, then my car can do 88mpg! :)

yep same guy still has it and is now on his second clutch lol quite a few more miles on her now though i think something like 70,000

how many miles you have drove/gallons of fuel used

    go on continue.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,314 ✭✭✭Technoprisoner

continue with what? how many miles you have drove divided by petrol used...or do you want me to include if i was driving up hill or not....or maybe what the weather conditions are like outside?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,160 ✭✭✭bmw535d

and how do you calculate how much fuel you have used? by the fuel gauge? uphill or downhill doesn't matter for an average mpg.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,314 ✭✭✭Technoprisoner

fill your car up ....do your journey....fill up again and see how many liters/gallons it takes to fill....are you going somewhere with this are just making me answer questions for your amusment?

right and of course your accounting for the amount of fuel left in the fuel tank/fuel lines/fuel-pump/ fuel filter/ when you fill up or do you push the car to the pumps?;)you see where you have gone wrong in your calculations now my friend?

and yes it is quite amusing that you think an evo will do an average of 28mpg, which included getting to and from the motorway where you say it will do 28mpg.

there would be minimal fuel in the lines, filter and pump. and i never said anything about empting the tank did I? i said when you fill your tank count how many liters it takes to refill. and yes i know for real as i own 3 evos at the moment...how many do you own? by the way the motorway is less than 5 minutes from my house ;)

if you would like to have an argument about something you "might" know about lets start talking about bmw's...you might stand a better chance of winning that one loll

so when you refilled there was exactly the same amount of petrol left in the tank as the last time? how did you ensure of that?3 evos? working in a motor factors? ive seen one evo 6 to your name, and if im not mistaken you said i am kicking myself i didnt have enough money for a maknin. so if you have three evos wouldn't you have enough for a tommi maknin

i just own the one evo,
