There is nothing more infuriating than people putting empty wrappers back in tins of Roses. You get excited when you see the familiar blue of the Dairy Milk, and for it to be empty and then you're left with one of the bastard reject sweets that no one likes, no matter how many times you tell yourself "Ah maybe I'll like it this time..." No you won't. You never do.

This year we went with the quality street & milktray. I prefer roses, they're less apprehensive than Q street.

It used to be said you'd know who were the prods or had prods in the family or were trying to be posh if they had quality street, well that's what one of my grandmother's would say. Oddly enough the other always had quality street.

The Frys/Cadbury version are muck

The real ones covered in corn flour/icing sugar are less muck.

Roses are total poo since they got rid of Truffle Chunk (best.sweet.ever), Chocolate Bite, Praline Moment, Nutty Truffle Log and (looong ago) Coffee Creme.

Heroes are nice but I will never ever ever forgive Cadbury for taking out the Crunchie Bite. Still miss the Nuts About Caramel and Fuse varieties too, and, slightly, the Picnic.

I have no particular beef with Celebrations. They're nice. I wish they'd left the roundy ones shaped the way the way they used to be though.

Never have Quality Street. There's only like one nice sweet in the whole thing.

My favourite chocolates by a long shot are from Puccini Bomboni in Amsterdam. Their chocolate covered marzipans are divine & their dark chocolate pepper flavoured chocolates are mind blowingly nice.

What about the plain old Dairy Milk? It's not the classiest chocolate there is, but gram for gram it's pretty much the best value.
