Aer Lingus 75 Years

Just thought I would create a thread for Aer Lingus at 75 years. For those interested a new advert will be launched tonight during the 9 oclock news on rte 1 to celebrate.
Also 2011 will see a plane with a retro livery launched as well as the Iolar returning to the air so should be interesting to see what else is planned.

That's pretty disgraceful given what happened over the last week. You'd think they would change it!!

As a Prestige member, I got a nice 2011 calendar recently in the post from them celebrating 75 years. They're promising an overhaul to the Gold Circle club.

I gave the calendar to my Mom as the weeks on the calendar start on a Sunday - something she really likes (go figure!)

Apparently all the photos are from EI staff. Seem to have picked 1 from each section.

In regard to any insult by the commentary in the advert, I assume the advert was filmed 2-3 months ago before all of the problems with snow. I think I caught a glimpse of a clear T2........and its wasn't EI who closed the airports.

I don't really want to get into this but...

The ad would have been made months ago, the airtime would have been booked and paid for months ago, the travelling public know it's not the airlines fault (even though they have to carry the can) if the airport operators (DAA) shut the place. AL did not tell a blatant lie with their ad so go troll someplace else.

Just look at the situation in Moscow airport for the last few days!!
    Puts things in perspective.
Must try and get one of the calenders..
    Apologies for going off thread!!

How am I trolling exactly? I'd love to know.

The ad states 'We got everyone home for Christmas'. They didn't - and even though it was through no fault of their own, that's called making a false statement, which if you look it up I think you'll find means that they're lying.

    Not a nice condition.

    Yeah, but am I wrong?

I'm just seeing it from the point of view of someone who was stranded somewhere and couldn't get home. Aer Lingus saying 'we got everyone home for Christmas' is rather insulting to them....

hey neil get over it. its an advert celebrating 75 years of aer lingus and if you take the statement into context every flight that could be operated was operated including over the last month. aer lingus ran their crews to the raged edge to such a point that they could legally not fly any more because the staff had worked so much hours. the airports were shut by the daa and other authorities not aer lingus or any other airline so please don't be nit picking a statment made months ago. all airlines over the last month need to be commended they did their best. and on another note they made that statement while making an advert a while back which is past tense hence recent occurances cannot be considered bound by the past statement hence not a lie:D:D:D:D:D:D:P:P don't loose any sleep over it

If i recollect correctly out of the 75 years Aer Lingus operated this was the first year where a significant number of people didn't make it home due to ...and note this... circumstances outside the companies control.

So sorry you didn't get home, but shit happens.

    Enjoy your holiday.

For the 3rd and final time, I have said I KNOW that the reasons why people were left stranded had nothing to do with AL, but it's their statement that's out of line!!!

I also love your compassion for those unfortunate enough to be stranded. I'd love to know how you'd deal with having to sleep in an airport at Christmas!

It would be interesting to see what plane they will choose for their old livery.

    I suggest they charter a Boeing 747. :)

The most awesome plane in former livery. :p

Airbus in old livery would just not look right.

That would be a really good Idea, but are there many 747-100's still out there?

They're a ****ing **** airline with overpriced tickets, grubby aircraft and unfriendly staff.

    Just a notch above ryanair.

I wouldn't get on a 747-200 too old ,they finished production in 1980

I say they'll go with the A330 scrap that apparently it's gonna be 4 A320's in 3 liveries see the video below

I always did like the most recent EI-DEH scheme. Even today it still doesn't seem all that dated, and it made a nice change from the overall white which was so common.

It's not a statement, it's an advertising campaign.

I have plenty of experience of sleeping at airports, but I didn't get anal about it.

I just want to point out that neither the video or drawings are from Aer Lingus and I cant see them paint 4 aircraft in a retro scheme when every other carrier that has celebrated a anniversary in the last few years has only painted one aircraft....

Heres the original drawings from May 2008...
    http://www.cardatabase.net/modifiedairlinerphotos/search/search.php?search=normal

As much as everyone would like to see a fleet of retro aircraft schemes that would be too big a investment in these times...

The age of any plane wouldn't bother me, have already been up on a 70 year old Tiger Moth, and my ambition is to fly in a JU52 or DC3.

Once the airplane has an up to date internationally recognized airworthy certificate it should be fine. Brand new planes have often fallen out of the sky. In fact if Shannon was not a compulsory stop over for the three Aer Lingus 747 100's they could still be flying today as they had very few landings and take off's per flying hours compared to probably any other plane of this type.

Only one of the new A320's will feature a retro livery. It is suppose to be the second last one in the image posted above. Should arrive in April.

While everyone can appreciate that it was not EI's decision to close the airports and that nobody can influence the weather, I am sure there are many who were unhappy with the level of information given, the way they were spoken to by EI staff or the prioritisation of other flights above theirs so I am not sure it is wise for EI to have run the advert.

I am sure the likes of BA would have pulled it.

I'm with Westdub. EI will have 1 retro A320. It will be in one of the schemes noted above. A boards.ie poster has previously confirmed it will be the 3rd one down (white with green stripe) The restoration of the Ioalr has been confirmed by the same poster. Wonder will EI sell tickets for flight on it, that I would want to do.

That image of the 4 A320 has been on flickr for at least a year now,was orignally done up 2 1/2 years ago by an Italian guy, the credit is on the flickr pic.

Had a quick look, heres the image on flickr with the credit to the original guy
    http://www.flickr.com/photos/tearbringer/2935938392/

Hope to see EI doing a few things for this anniversary, not often that an airline hits 75 years. (Although KLM, Qantas, Iberia and a few others are ahead of that)

As for the cost of the livery, surely getting it painted in the Airbus factory wouldn't add too much extra to the cost?

Of course there were also the couple of thousand of passengers who did get home for Christmas due to EI staff working through the night on Christmas Eve, allowing all aircraft to return to Dublin. The last flight didn't arrive in until 0430 on Christmas Day while as far as I am aware all other airlines were gone home by midnight. Im sure they didn't object to the advert

    Not now, but then yes...

I am looking forward to seeing ( and possibly flying on ) the a320 .

It's a shame that with the retro paint scheme you don't get the retro service :-)

I remember spotting at LHR during the 1970s and 80s , Christmas time you would see virtually the whole of EI's fleet at T1 , incl the 747/ 707 / Bac 111 everything , normally it would only be the ' pigs ' ( 737 )

A retro service would also come with a retro price tag.

    We don't want that.

I would prefere to do away with my take off sweet, "free" copy of times and coffee for cheaper fares.

Putting this here because I literally just caught the tail out of the corner of my eye as the report finished, and thought it might be the retro livery.

Is this just a sort of long term rental? Not worth putting the whole livery on it, but still wanting to identify it as Aer Lingus?

According to the Irish Air Letter January edition EI-DVM will actually arrive in March, before EI-DVL. It will be delivered from TLS while DVK and DVL are from XFW (Finkenwerder) Airbus apparently are transferring all A320 construction to XFW.

I trust this source more as until about 3 weeks ago jethros.eu had the reg as EI-EVK... and was showing 4 A320 being sold to Amsterdam Airlines when the IAL was saying 3 A321 were leaving.
