This could be the secondarily post in this thread if someone doesn't get there first. Perhaps it will even be thirdarily.

This guy really annoys me, he's so full of s**t and seems to be on the tv, every time I turn it on.
The NRA have messed up with the grit and today's roads were a disaster, the ramps off the m50 were really slippy, especially Finglas one.
That guy is always so smug and cocky looking, probably receiving a big Christmas bonus for the millions they have made from the tolls.
    I hate him!

    Rant over.

Sean claimed that we used 75000 tons of salt this year, me thinks he is being clever with the truth and including the salt that was used at the beginning of the year in Janurary and Feburary.
    Verdict 5 **** bullshi**er

He does have a bit of a twang alright but that could be for a variety of reasons all of which are of no consequence to the job he is doing. we shouldnt let it influence us either way. After all, many many irish have been v glad to get jobs abroad.

Regarding salary as indicated by dvpower he is not head of NRA and I am sure that he is under instruction to make as many interviews as requested so he is probably doing the job he is paid to do. The various issues are probably not of his doing.

I just love the way we need to find someone to blame for the shortage of grit. Yes its the NRAs job to invest in grit stocks but you're forgetting that this winter is one of the harshest winters in years and it started much earlier than last year. The NRAs ability to hold salt stocks is not unlimited as it must be kept indoors and dry. It also costs money. If a ship takes two weeks to sail from egypt with salt moaning about the PR guy isn't going to make it arrive any faster. Imagine the outcry on wasted money had this winter turned out to be a mild one and the NRA had built huge stores for an excess of salt???

The reason we're not coping as well as we should be is because of planning. If people didn't live in so many god damn one off houses there wouldn't be as much pressure on salt stocks. But we can't blame that because one off housing is "a way of life" in this country

what are you talking about? I assume you mean houses, as in the ones that aren't part of estates?? none of those roads ever get gritted. none of the roads near where I live have been gritted as of yet. same as last year. and there are some fairly bad bends on hills around these parts. very dangerous not to have gritted.

lol at most of the responses on here but seriously, I really like the dude...he is far more articulate compared to the usual commentary that is largely xterised by folks that talk as if they are relaying instructions via an implanted ear piece..with all the errms in the middle of sentences. I think he is a breath of fresh air tbh...

He's a lying bull****ting clown with a stupid annoying accent.
Come across as barely having a clue what a road is, never mind how to run the countries network of them

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,370 ✭✭✭✭Son Of A Vidic

This incompetent pr1ck, we're waiting nearly two weeks for 25000 tonnes of salt. Roads up my way haven't been salted since last Wednesday. If we use 5000 tonnes of salt a day, you don't need to be a mathematical genius to realise we will only have 5 days cover. Has he even thought of this? We have along way to go with winter yet, so what's the contingency? Has the NRA even got one? Storm in the Mediterranean my ar$e!

Nobody would complain too much if the council didnt grit the roads out the country as long as they managed to clear the main routes between towns etc. They are not doing that (in mayo at least) so your argument is nonsense tbh.
I travelled today 60 miles to the county town of castlebar without seeing a spoon of salt/grit. That is crap and is simply not goo enough. This was a national road and it had about 2 inches of packed snow.
That guy on tv in a spoofer. He was using phrases like, give up a couple of days and we will have another shipment. It should have been here before now. They told us it was here so someone was telling lies. It f*cking salt, I sure it could be stockpiled outdoors in some form - perhaps bring it in in rock form or whatever.

Im merely pointing out the NRA in itself is a pure waste. Yes i get the need for road management in this state but surely the dept of Environment could manage a more scaled down 'Road quality' section along with a 'Road safety section' and free up more money for the roads instead of paying a whole organisation plus its spin doctors to fill us with cr*p.
I dont know the exact salary but knowing this country probably massive for very little.

the NTA should be dealing with this. RSA, RPA, DAA, aviation safety board etc etc etc should all be combined into it also.

I wouldn't mention the semi state heads or companies itself if i didn't feel it was relevant to Sean O'Neill but i think it is. The roads are scandalous in this country and it sickens me to hear the likes of O'Neill coming out with constant lies in the media and then creaming off the country like many of his peers.

He needs to be dragged out of the NRA bunker and made explain to every car stuck behind a 40ft truck why they are not gritting slip roads:mad:

Nobody is complaining? Well perhaps I'm imagining the gombeen councillors on RTE complaining that their little village hasn't been salted? Might I remind you that the cold weather started in the middle of November almost a month and a half earlier than normal. We are now almost 6 weeks into the cold spell, which is the normal duration of the Irish winter in its entirety. The ability of the NRA to hold salt stocks is not unlimited. It cannot be kept outdoors, it would dissolve and any salt that is left would cake up. The NRA hasn't the ability to magically make salt appear either. In case you haven't noticed there is also a severe winter in the UK and on the continent so its not just us looking for salt.

Two inches of snow? What do you want the NRA to do? Go out and buy snow ploughs that might not be used for 15 years? What would be easier to do is legislate that all cars must use winter tyres from between December and January. If people used the proper equipment they wouldn't be suffering half as much

It's salt, it would dissolve at the first drop of rain no matter what form it's in.

I just want to point out it's been 5 weeks since I broke my ankle, and there was no cold spell when that happened.and not for at least a week after that.

And since everyone seems to believe in 'climate change' so frickin much why not invest in snow plows since this is supposedly what our winters are going to be like from now on

I think the continuity is provisional on them keeping us supplied with salt. Of course, if the gritting-lorries are de-commissioned, we'll be left out in the cold.:(

somebody should ask him the commercial reasons for buying in salt from Morocco when there's a salt mine in Carrickfegus exporting the stuff to the UK and elsewhere....

The time delay alone is enough to justify any slightly higher price they may ask

I don't know anyone who likes salt and vinegar crisps, yet they're still making the feckin things. Perhaps we could use them?
