Rear Wheel Drive Fail to be sure.

I doubt she had any idea her car was even rear wheel drive like many many BMW drivers.

Theres only so much of a laugh you can have with a BMW driver. Isnt there another thread on here with some guy with a beamer and chains on the front - then the realisation that it may actually be 4WD.

    Also,
you'd think the cnut that actually took this video would have to decency to go out and help yer wan out instead of taping it.

EDIT - he may have, but only after recording it.

Might have been easier to help her than to video her.

Youtube wouldnt exist without its creators.

These type of videos wouldnt exist if not for cnuts happier to laugh at someones misfortune (talking about the video taker here), instead of lifting their ass and going out to help.
It brings the term "keryboard warrior" to a whole new level.

Haha, I've done that in gear push off thing. Results similar to that except I got in and didn't have it pointed towards a house.

That wasnt funny at all! Especially the ending, which could have been avoided with a little bit of input.. though I suspect the Camera operater wouldnt have been much use either.

PS, Non car related, but Snow and Funny - Sleding while pulled by Fighter jet

If you see someone doing something that you know is incorrect and could lead to a potential accident, you are just as ignorant and or stupid as that person as far as I am concerned.

We need skid pan/ ice driving tests like they have in Finland.

    Yep,

really, do you think that is feasible for everyone in every situation.

We need people to take a bit of personal responsibiliy and educate themselves a bit. The fact is that the driving test is crap, but for everyone to just sit back and take the attitude of "well if someone isnt going to make me learn, I'm not learning" is ridiculous.

    Couldn't agree more!

Before last winter I don't recall ever driving on ice/snow... So what did I do?

I went out on empty roads in the middle of the night and learned how to handle it!

I tried to find the grip (fresh snow vs compacted etc).
Jammed on the brakes to get experience with what way the car was gonna go if I locked up the wheels... Got to know my ABS and TC systems...

Better to get to know your ABS when you don't need it, rather than when you need your brakes and find yourself thinking "what the fook is that grinding noise?"

Met a neighbour the other day, whose front wheel drive car was stuck like the above. So I just gave their car a push, and got a lift to work out of it :D

complete and total epic fail. why is it always the 1 series drivers? pure badge snobary rather then buying it for the drive, feel or engine choice.also i think the title should be renamed woman+bmw+snow=fail, as its not the cars fault.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,819 ✭✭✭✭peasant

Let's cut to the point here ...never mind the brand of car, which wheels are the driven ones, the sex of the driver or even the state of the weather.

Pushing a car (in or out of gear) with no-one at the wheel and brakes is stupid. Borderline Darwin-award stupid, actually.

Listen I was housebound on my own all day and an opportunity arose for drinking and girls. I was getting out of my drive that night.

I'd an auto box so not quite as quick to pull off.

Ah, you're still young, grasshopper. At my age drink and girls don't have that kind of pull anymore. Mind you ...at my age pushing the car on my own is also out of the question :D

My boss got stuck in a 520d right outside work the other night, rear wheels spinning on the spot. The car was parked on a big pile of slush on a slight incline and she wouldn't budge more than 3 inches. I tried pushing it in vain.

A Bora pulled up and four lads jumped out, put their cans on the ground and we pushed the car free. :D

What a waste, we could have had 5 different angles of someone helplessly stuck in the ice out of that scenario!

It's certainly risky, but it was probably her only chance to get the car going with no help. (given that she didn't seem able to get the hang of rocking it out) Didn't look like she had the strength to get it moving if she hadn't left it with wheels spinning.

Wasn't the smartest though, all she needed to do was probaly push at the driver doors with it open having straightened up direction of front wheels. Either that or get stuck somewhere without a absolute ****wit watching and laughing rather than helping, hope she took a good chunk out of his house..

She also could have gone looking for help (and on the danger of sounding sexist ...what with her being a woman, the chances of finding a night in shining armour behind one doorbell or another aren't that bad)

What a silly thing to do, its not funny because what if their was someone walking on the path outside the house, unaware of her problem and gets hit because of her stupid, stupid decision.

But at the same time, its funny that someone would actual go do that. Deserved to get a ding on her BMW.

true enough, but she had the right idea imo, just didn't realise how little it took to get momentum going and got caught out quite badly.

nope ...consciously getting your car into a state where it (even just potentially) drives down the road on its own steam without a driver behind the wheel ...really, really not a good idea.

Mate of mine bust his ankle pushing his own car from the driver's door, he slipped and caught it under the driver's rear wheel as it drove forward.

    Really? I'm not so sure.

Given the womans clear lack of knowledge about driving in the snow, I'm not sure I would be happy trying to push the car anywhere with her at the wheel. In fact, I don't understand why people even attempt pushing cars, especially up hill when it's icy. It seems to be the most stupid thing you could do of all things.

Another question I have been asking myself recently: if the roads are that bad why was she out driving at all in he first place?

In fairness, if someone gave those excuses for driving drunk (or even without tax) they'd be crucified here. I've an E90 outside on summer tyres, and it's going nowhere until the roads clear - it's just too dangerous.

I was talking about housing estates around the city. It snowed when I was at home the other night and the amount of people who immediately thought it would be a good idea to drive amazed me. There was a jeep outside my house (which is on a hill) with all four wheels spinning, and yet people still thought it was a good idea to try to drive up the hill behind me.

If you are living in a town or city there is no reason you need to drive to the shops an put other peoples lives in danger.

As for needing to get home to look after your kids, do you often leave your kids home alone?

Well one is a case where someone willingly intoxicates themselves for their enjoyment and the other is a case of being the victim of circumstance. Its not the same.
Not everyone has multiple cars (or um, Winter tyres, which as you know I advocate "occasionally").

1: You didnt put that qualifier of "living in town" in your earlier post you just flat out said you wont help people move their cars as "they shouldnt be driving" which remains a bizarre comment to make.
2: I never said the kids were left completely alone. I dont have any kids, but it wouldnt be unusual to leave say 12yo's alone when you go out to get food.

How is saying people shouldn't be driving an icy conditions a bizarre statement? You are endangering yourself, other road users and any pedestrians by driving in these conditions.

If by not helping people you mean that I won't stand behind a car and try to push it up an icy hill you are damn right. In my thinking, anyone who does this is in the running for a Darwin award.

You never said the kids were not completely alone either. Either way, that is a completely different discussion and probably not one to have in the motoring forum.
