Medal of Honor: Allied Assault and the expansion (Breakthrough) on the PC. The one with the Liberation game mode on it. I played this game to hell and back online. Nothing better than using a bolt action rifle (no scope) for those beautiful one shot kills

Of all time? Probably CS or HL

    S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl

Only because I haven't played Call of Pripyat yet :)

    Quake FTW!

Doom (or Doom II, either one will do nicely), and Duke Nukem 3D.

all of those games (other than timesplitters) are 3rd person shooters

System Shock 2 for me. I like my FPS games to be far more than point and shoot. Played a bit of stalker and loved it as well and must get back to Deus Ex.

For dumbshootersmy favourites would be the original Call of Duty, Half Life 1 and 2 and Doom 2. Also love Shadow Warrior.

took 15 posts for quake to be mentioned.

people not actually knowing the difference between 1st and 3rd person shooters, this thread is full of fail apart from dr. phil's and retrogamer's posts :pac:

One of the best games ive played on any console. I remember having it for PS2 and spending endless hours playing it, single player and multiplayer. Wish it was out for the X-Box 360:(

What games mentioned are 3rd person?

For me....Halo. No game I have played so much alone, online, with friends, and in LAN.

Silly me for not reading things properly haha.... Halo and wolfenstein are fps, i think, lol not to mention COD.
Personally, i like them both.(FPS and 3rd person) and if i remember correctly TS was a camp game.:D

I've nevr actually played Time spillets, but from what I'm reading here, it looks like I could be missing out.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,394 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

It's kind of dated to be honest. The single player is a bit crap but the multiplayer is fun. It's like an updated goldeneye. It would be quite ordinary except for the huge amount of modes, some of which are loads of fun. I'm not sure it would hold up but in the early PS2/GC era Timesplitters 2 was a great console shooter although not a patch on PC shooters of the era.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,699 ✭✭✭deathrider

I didn't bother much with FPS games on PS2 in general, to be honest. Turok: Evolution was really the only one that stands out for me on that console. If I see Time Splitters around anywhere, I might pick it up and give it a rumble.

    Wolfenstein 3D.

I'd probably say Half Life as my favourite pure point and shoot, though System Shock 2 would be up there as my facourite fps/rpg hybrid.

Yeah, if we are allowed hybrids, then I'm going with SS2 as well. First PC game I owned and still my favourite.

    Toss-up between Half-Life 2 & Deus Ex.

Half-Life 2 because it has this sublime design to it, which means that the only thing stopping my gaming session is a power cut.

Deus Ex because it is, quite possibly, the largest, most in-depth "world" I've ever experienced in a game.

And honorary mention to Ratchet & Clank 3 in FPS mode.
    LOVE Insomniac's weapons creators!

Probably UT way back in 2000. First gaming I did online other than MUDs and I'm still amazed they were able to make it workable over dialup.
Hours and hours whiled away, I probably haven't actually matched the time spent on a fps online since.

At the moment I'm playing tons of Black ops and really liking it.

    But ever?

Hmmmmm, Goldeneye, Doom 2 or Half Life 2 are top tier IMO(for their time)

Deus Ex for me. Playing that game completely sucked me in. Particularly when you felt the decisions you were making were having an influence over the storyline.

The Half Life Series and Modern Warfare 1. I'd say Doom one/two but being honest that's just nostalgia. I think nostalgic stuff should be accounted seperately. The large majority of older games have aged badly although the Doom games are still good to play.

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,394 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Doom hasn't aged a bit. It's a bit dated graphically but for sheer balls out blasting and fantastic level design there's nothing else like it.

i really tried with System Shock 2 at the time but it suffered from one of the most annoying things that games can do to you
    Respawn!
    AaaaaaaaaaaH

wolfenstein enemy territory, its a classic !

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,845 ✭✭✭Jet Black

Most memorable for me would be half life, UT99, duke nukem, timesplitters 2, TF2, HL2, portal, left4dead, battlefield BC, fallout 3 and dare I say it for fear of being lynched
    MW2

    TF2 wins overall for me.

Swat 4, the tension could be awesome towards the end of a mission. f

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,788 ✭✭✭✭krudler

Original Half Life probably, awesome atmosphere in that game, hearing the marines radio chatter when they were around, wondering what the hell was making all that noise in the big pipes before getting to the tentacles, the first time you were underwater too long, turned around and saw the gaping mouth of that giant fish, the opening segment, awesome.

    Fallout 3 for me!
