...but I'm wondering is it a reliable brand when it comes to hard drives? The last thing I want is to spend almost €100 on a non-110%-reliable hard drive.

€100 on a 1TB drive isn't such a good price these days. Here's a 2TB drive for €79 ex VAT (€95.59 with VAT):

I dont think the one you linked is a portable as it comes with an ac adaptor.

That is excluding VAT.

Including VAT, it totals €105.34 with delivery.

Well you edited your post to include the Amazon mention after I made that post.

None of the "alternatives" which have been offered are genuine alternatives, since they are all AC-powered devices.

The one I posted is still the cheapest of its kind that anyone has posted. Anything else has been more expensive or not at all the same.

It a very competive price rather than an out an out bargain, but from a quick look around a few etailers I can't seem to do any better getting a decent brand portable 1TB drive to Ireland.

Well it gives you an alternative place to buy it and if you needed anything else from an online electronics store possibly save you money.

As previously stated samsung are pretty decent drives but as nearly all portable hdds have 3 year warrentys I don't think it makes a huge difference which one you choose.

My only question is how reliable are Iomega? Are they as reliable as Samsung? I think reliability is extremely important when it comes to hard drives.

Iomega have been around for years, they are are very good brand. They are one of the market leaders in this whole field of media/external drives. (The ZipDrive from about 10 years ago - for those who remember them - was their invention.)

In fact I had found another 1Tb drive somewhere else that was working out at €5 cheaper, but went for this one because it was a better make.

I know this thread is filled with nonsense. Maybe, however, some people have been educated on the importance of (when posting the price of online products) firstly checking:

Is the item I'm posting the same (technically) as the OP's item?
Do they deliver to Ireland?
Does the price include VAT?
What is the total price including delivery to Ireland?

I'd urge people to tick off the four items in that list in future before posting "alternatives." :P

Yeah - I must apologise for both my posts. I wrongly thought they were both portable. I think the problem is that 95 euro doesnt seem like a particularly good price (I have definitely seen them cheaper) and thats why everyone tried to beat it - although obviously its a better price than many had thought!

Even still, a cheaper version of technically the same item isn't necessarily comparable. It can be like comparing Tesco Value products with Premium Deluxe products. You have to take quality and reliability into account. Price isn't the only thing that needs to be considered. And if there are similar items to the one I posted at a much cheaper price, I would seriously question their level of quality.

I have one of these and bought two others for ppl. Have them about 2 months and hassle free so far. Get a max of about 26MB per sec from internal HD to this drive and the same between two of these devices.
