    Hi All

Ive been training hard over the last few months and getting good results with my goals....clean diet and good compound lifts mixed with cardio and all is going well......

but part of the clean diet is that i dont drink alcohol....and its been so long since i have drank alcohol that with christmas here i have a few "sessions" to go to....just wondering what effect a few sessions would have overall or is it better just to steer clear.......you know what its like when you show up and say your not drinking......its almost just not worth going for all the questions and grief.......any thoughts?

    You'll be grand.

If possible, train the day of (5-6 hours beforehand), have the day after free and as much as it sucks - try to rehydrate aggressively and eat as normal to get your body back ready to go the following day.

its xmas, if you want to drink, drink. if you dont then dont. personally i enjoy a few pints so I'm going to relax and have my few pints and get back to the training once its done.

Its important to take a break from the norm every few months, the norm for you right now is training, eating clean and not drinking.

going on a few sessions isnt going to turn back the clock on all the hard work you have done.

again I will say though - only if you want to drink then drink.

I have been training really hard for the last 12 weeks (Did 6 weeks of the Squats and milk workout) and am at the moment doing a split body workout 4 times a week (hour per workout). Have a night out planned this Friday as well as the following Wednesday and the Friday after that.

I was actually feeling guilty about going out as I know that I wont be any fit state to workout on the day after and as I am going out straight from work I cant workout those days either. Also I would love to think that I wont drink on these nights out but chances are I will. I am just going to workout for 2 days both weeks and then after xmas will get back into it. There is no harm in taking a bit of a break. Life is too short imo

Have a few (or a ton!) of drinks, it's Christmas! :) What's the point in training hard if you can't let loose now and then?

You've your entire life to get fit. Enjoy your drinks/yourself over xmas.

Beer is for babies. When you grow up you have to drink milk.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,341 ✭✭✭El Horseboxo

I try to limit the amount of beer i drink and usually stick to vodka or rum mixed with water and a lemon or lime in it. Which i actually really like, especially when ice cold. It's a lot lower in empty calories than beer and because it's mixed with water you are being hydrated all night and don't get a hang over meaning you can get up and knock out a quick session without feeling too bad. I don't be knocking them back either. And if i do drink beer it's usually something light. Mates give a bit of stick over it but they quickly shut up when i pick them up and do an overhead squat with their puny bodies.

If I've learned anything from the past year it's that a few beers every weekend and the odd take away won't catastrophically derail your training or progress.

life's too short for poxy paleo chocolate, non alcoholic organic beer and cauliflower pizza!!

I feel a little sorry for people who fret over a few christmas beers..

Maybe have one or two light beers OP if you MUST(can't people get by without the sauce ) but keep it to a minimum if you are as serious about your training as you say you are.

Drinking is fine. It's the excess calories from the chipper afterwards that makes you fat.

I havent drank in the last 8 weeks.
Ive lost 9kg in the last 10 weeks by eating clean and training hard and smart

Im competing on saturday, then Im gonna eat pizze til it comes out my ears and drink a case of corona.
then Im gonna enjoy my christmas and as soon as January 1st hits, its back off the booze and back on the clean eating trail.

Well surely your post is irrelevant as you didnt drink to achieve your gains and that is what the op is asking:rolleyes:

shove your smiley up your arse

My post is relevant because in my opinion, training hard and eating well for a period of time and abstaining from drink makes going back for a few pints and cheat meal or two even more rewarding.

Or did I not spell that out clearly enough...............

No what you said didn't make any sense whatsoever.

You were saying that you have achieved your goals for the competition this Saturday and then are letting yourself go altogether with "Pizza coming out of your ears". That is not what the OP is asking, he is asking would it be ok to maybe have a few beers without effecting his progress.

He doesn't want to go overboard but obviously you are very proud of yourself as you decided to come on here for some reason and tell us your life story

anyone with half a brain would have grabbed the jist of the post.

you appear to have missed it however.

    in short
eat clean and train hard the majority of the time.

having a few beers and few cheat meals the odd time wont affect you're training or your long term goals.

just gt back to eating clean and training hard immediately after, as hanley already alluded to.

    That clear enough?

My point here was a fair one, nobody asked what Liam did or how much he gorges but he used it as a vehicle to give himself a pat on the back.

The OP may not train as stringently as Liam so its not really up to him to tell the OP to eat whatever he likes till its "coming out his ears" over x-mas.

you sound like an 18/19 year old whose pubescent metabolism is making up for a crappy lifestlye.

Continue this lifestyle into your mid to late twenties and you will BATTLE like Custer against the bulge.

As for the boring life comment, Im not gonna take the bait.
