Favourite actor that doesnt get enough work?

Im cheating a little because hes in a big show now but Nathan Fillion, i would love to see that guy getting much more work. Not that Castle is bad mind you but he still seems criminally underutilised somehow.

Ill throw in an honourable mention for Bruce Cambell who needs to be in far far more stuff, tv film whatever, just more!

What does everyone think? What are some more class actors/actresses not given nearly enough opportunities?

Steve Buscemi - I know he's been in quite a lot of films and tv shows as it is but he should be in everything. The guy is a legend. The Irish guy from misfits as well.

hah, as soon as I saw the title of this thread I thought of Nathan as well, great actor. Rewatched Serenity last night. Haven't seen any of Castle yet, worth a watch ? Another firefly cast member I'd like to see more of - Summer Glau.

Also Kris Marshall (My Family, those BT ads) and Stephen Mangan (Green Wing) deserve to be huge.

Michael K. Williams is brilliant, but he's only really had 3 big parts, The Wire, The Road and Boardwalk Empire.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,503 ✭✭✭✭Also Starring LeVar Burton

Martin Starr - completely underrated actor. Fantastic in Freaks and Geeks and Party Down. Has had some minor parts in some big movies, but would love to see him in a big tv show again soon - even as part of a large ensemble cast would be great.

    Martin Starr

    + 1 to this.

Also, Johnny Harris. An English actor and one scary motherf*cker. He played Lol's dad in This is England 86. He should be in everything!

Christopher Heyerdahl. The guy is just a cool mother ***ker, and he can act too. :)

Kevin Durand. Love that guy, should be cast in more protagonist roles though or maybe an anti hero role, shame he is being typecast as a villan mostly except Robin Hood. Although he was one of the best bad guys ever in LOST ;)

    Tom Cavanagh..

    Tom.jpg

.. the guy goes from starring in the superb 'Ed' for 4 seasons to a number of show-stealing guest roles in 'Scrubs' and 'Eli Stone'. He then got a starring role in 'Trust Me' before it was cancelled after one season last year.

Guy is probably the most likeable actor on the planet.. and needs much more credit!

I would like to see more of Winona Ryder and Harvey Keitel.

First time I'd seen him was in that - He was totally fantastic. A real screen presence.

Harvey Keitel has been in over 120 films including Monkey Trouble which was released at the same time as Pulp Fiction. I always considered him as one actor who should work a lot less. Not that I dislike him or anything but he's been in as much godawful ****e as he has good films (I'm not sure how much TV he's done, so maybe you meant he should be on TV more, if so, apologies).

Fillion and Campbell are great in their current shows Castle and Burn Notice

Id say Lee Tergensen and Titus Welliver - there are great in any show they are in, both deserve lead roles imo

    Aidan Gillen.

I thought he was brilliant in The Wire. He was good in Queer as Folk as well. I haven't watched the RTE thing he was in, but surely he's bigger than slumming it with RTE.

He's gonna be in Game of Thrones, so thats a big one to be involved with.

Great stuff. I'm looking forward to that show. Especially as I could never get into the books.

Is this thread for tv actors or movie actors or both?

In regard to UK actors I would say Stephen Mangan and Dean Lennox Kelly

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,302 ✭✭✭JohnMearsheimer

I'm going to say Andrew Lincoln and Chris Cooper. Chris Cooper pops up every now and again in movies and always delivers. Lincoln is very likeable too.

    Loved him in Ed.
    Quite an underrated show.
Also Carol Vessey (a young(er) Julie Bowen) looked amazing in it.

    Love Lee Tergeson.
It is a testament to his acting that he is both Beecher in Oz and Chet in Weird Science, two completely disparate characters.
Actually found it hard to believe it was the same actor.

He was no Bill Paxton though..

    +1 for Dean Lennox Kelly.
Shameless was never the same after he left. His stint on Being Human was fantastic and he was perfect to plat Shakespeare in Doctor Who. I also highly commend the film he was in with Chris O'Dowd a couple of years ago - Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel.

Tom Hardy. Had a bit part in Rockenrolla as Handsome Bob, was absolutely brilliant in the ITV series The Take and very good as Bronson in the movie of the same name. Glad to see he made it into a great movie like Inception but hope get to see him in bigger parts, great actor.

Now that Caprica is finished I hope Eric Stoltz gets alot more exposure.

Nathan Fillion is perfect for "Castle". I don't think he needs another show.

I would love to see Peter Weller get a leading TV role. He's been great fun in "Dexter" and was fantastic in "Odyssey 5".

No women on your list, lads? (Winona Ryder doesn't really count since she has done feck all TV work in her career - she has only done one episode of friends and one episode of the simpsons)

CCH Pounder is a terrific actress, but I've only seen her in Warehouse 13 recently.
Plenty of talent from the buffyverse - Amy Acker, Juliet Landau, Emma Caulfield.
Anne Dudek gets a fair bit of TV time, but there is always room for more.

Mary Lynn Rajskub has done feck all since 24. Same with Jean Smart and Ann Wersching.

Rachel Nichols was in last weeks Criminal Minds. It was a guest role, but she was brilliant in it (I'd love to see her sign on as a cast member).

Nope, he needs more movie leads
He didn't exactly set the screen alight in 'White Noise 2' to be honest..

.. maybe he needs to be more selective with movie roles.

White Noise 2 had a very flat script. Fillion has great comedic timing, even when acting straight.
Even then WN2 was far better than the original IMHO.

I also think that he was great, playing to type in Slither

Maybe he just needs more movie roles lol

I agree with another poster Re: Stephen Graham, fantastic actor no matter where the character is from, seems he can do any accent as well! To go from scouser, to Londoner, to now being Al Capone in Boardwalk Empire!!

Another from Boardwalk Empire that I never noticed before, but certainly will be keeping an eye out for, is Michael Shannon (Agent Nelson Van Alden). I think he is absolutely brilliant in BE, and will be looking at his CV on IMDB to see anything of note that he has done in the past that may be worth a look!

Yeah that accent was impeccable, whereas Aidan Gillen(as much as I love the wire) struggles to do the accent of where he was born and raised.

But he has enough work right now surely? He's one of the leads in "The Middle" which is in its second season.

Brilliant in Dead Mans Shoes and as Rob Gretton (Manager of Joy Division and New Order) in 24 Hour Party People.
