it's that time of year again...

this has been a decent bit of fun to end the year over the last couple of years, so we're going to throw it out there again for this year.

the categories over recent years have been as follows:

    Best Poster
    Most Biased Poster
Most likely to be banned in 2011
    Most Successful Sh*t Stirrer
    Services to Irish Football
    Best Newcomer
Poster Who Always Defends The Indefensible
    Poster Who Left too Early
    Thread of the Year
    Rant of the Year
    Funniest Moment
RTE Coverage Moment of the Year

most importantly, do people think we should run it again? if there's a general consensus that we should then myself, with the more than able help of a couple of other mods, are happy to run it.

    so vote accordingly!

also, if anyone thinks that we should add a new award just post it and if it gets enough thanks we can put it in?

also, i will open a 'Nomination Thread' on Friday whereby you can make your nominations for each category. but that will all be explained properly come Friday.

    here's last year's suggestion thread...http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055764138&highlight=soccer+forum+awards

and here's last year's Nomination Thread to get those not familiar, erm, familar...http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2055766586&highlight=soccer+forum+awards

Should we run the Soccer Forum Awards? 92 votes

    Yes
    0% 0 votes
    No
    89% 82 votes
    i couldn't give a toss

Does one have to be able to post here to win an award, i.e. if someone is on a 6 month ban is it right that they can't defend themselves against nominations for things like biggest sh*tstirrer award and most biased?

Should I just stop wondering these things instead?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,466 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

    it's all a bit of fun, so i'd hope any comments about those sort of things would;

    1) be lighthearted enough, and so;
    2) would be taken in that spirit.

if people start getting personal, as per the normal rules of the charter, we would take the appropriate action.

it's unfortunate people are on bans who may be nominated, but if they really want to make a comment, they can always use a proxy.

it's all run smoothly before as far as i know, so i'd hope it'd do so again.

just to get the ball rolling on the suggestions...

    Post of the Year.

i'm sure some people have bookmarked certain posts even though i haven't!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,571 ✭✭✭✭Frisbee

Not sure how viable it would be as anyone nominated might get in a strop but:

    Failingest Prediction of the Year

could be a god laugh as long as people didn't take it too seriously.

I dont know if it made the final awards last year, but an RTE Coverage Moment of the Year is a must, and me thinks Graeme Souness might be on to a winner.

    Facepalm post of the year,

actually thats kind of like Frisbee's suggestion.

i'll edit that into the OP; it definitely got on the list last year, and is always good for some laughs.

especially with the added World Cup material this year :D

well, i know who is odds on to get the 'left too early' award :)

as for an award... the Xavi6/SoS award for flip-flop of the year has a nice ring to it ^^

I'm more of a lurker so could have this balls over elbows but the post that I thought was genius was the fan who bet that one year later Rafa Benitez would be out of a job. People made bets with him and one year later he collected all the posts and mentioned. Received Post of the Day too iirc. Thought it was sheer genius and within the timeframe you're asking.

    "Twit(ter) of the year"...

I'm not sure about that one myself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,617 ✭✭✭✭PHB

Is there a method to check which the most thanked post is in a forum? You could see the top ten.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,589 ✭✭✭✭Necronomicon

Been a few departures, Poster who left too Early should be interesting.

    Love the Failingest Prediction idea.

The only thing I'd add is that the Funniest Moment award last year seemed to go to football incidents rather than forum incidents. Not sure if that was intented but it'd be more interesting the other way around IMO.

I nominate myself for the "most criticism of Nani" award.

    Glazers Out!

I somehow missed them too... top work though. I know it's not really nomination time yet but if anyone's got anything that can touch those for Post of the Year, please do share...

Also, I'd definitely back Frisbee's Failingest Prediction one. There's a huge amount of dodgy predictions here so it'd be nice to drag them up again.

    * Heads off to edit old prediction posts *

    Cold Shoulder Award

(i.e. the poster who is on peoples ignore function the most!)

I think I might know who the winner of that is already though...

    eZe

    Most biased Poster

    Most Sucessful Sh*t Stirrer

Warper (plays a good game ;))

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,969 ✭✭✭✭Mars Bar

I think we're nominating categories here, not the actual posters.

    EDIT: Or maybe not...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,571 ✭✭✭✭Frisbee

afaik we're just nominating categories here then once we have them sorted there will be another thread for nominations for each.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,169 ✭✭✭JohnnyRyan99

Hahaha just had a look at last years nominations and awards, quality! Some great stuff in there! Looking forward to seeing a few gems i missed from earlier in the year in this years awards! Also Parallel Universe for the win!

In terms of nominations for categories i was thinking maybe something along the lines of..

"The moment that shook the Soccer Forum"

Maybe a few of the things that happened during the year that united us, drove us apart something that got everyone on here voicing their opinions! Just throwing shít off the wall. seeing what sticks!:D

maybe the awards could be themed (think it was done previously) i.e The Mike Ashley truckload of fail award or the Woy Hogson/Houlier biggest gaff award etc, of course those 3 are just very recent examples

Poster of the Year must definitely be called The Jamie Redknapp Top, Top Poster Award if that's the case.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,589 ✭✭✭✭Necronomicon

    +1 for themed awards.

    In which case:
    Best Newcomer

    Becomes:
The Javier Hernandez Award for Best Newcomer

    :pac:

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 21,254 Mod ✭✭✭✭Dub13

How about a behind enemy lines award for the best 'neutral' fan on the superthreads..?for example there are some good Utd posters who post on the Liverpool thread.

The superthreads can become a bit of a circle jerk so its good to have a 'neutral' view, this is what makes boards different and why IMO we should have a award for it.

The 'Mikael Silvestre Agent of the Year Award' for the poster who successfully infiltrated and shit stirred in a rival's superthread.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,081 ✭✭✭peabutler

The Van Persie award for the poster who makes a big impact before disappearing for months on end before making another impact so on so forth.

he hasn't been here for months, let it go.

no more nominations in here please; just ideas of awards, and your votes for/against/don't care with regards the idea.

    cheers.

This is for the names of the awards? ^ Ian Holloway for the Rant of the Year Award surely. Been so many! :pac:

Edit: Now that I think of it, if Holloway is eligible to win it then maybe don't name it after him. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,466 ✭✭✭✭SlickRic

Best Newcomer should maybe be Andy Carroll?

The 'Kammy Award' for Funniest Moment?

although if someone could come up with something wittier, go ahead ;)
