Hi, first of all apologies for posting something so sedantary as an electronic stomach belt in the fitness forum!
I am training (walking and running mostly, some tennis) but have stubborn belly fat. I work at a computer most days and could wear one of these belts - are they useful? the slendertone "lube less" ones seem very expensive, and you have to replace the pads frequently, it looks like a high running cost as well as high initial cost. Are they really that good or is it better to get one of the older style belts and use the conductive gel?

    Appreciate any advice folks :-)

Im not an expert in any way on fitness, but i know a few things learned from years of trying things, succeeding in some and failing in others.

    1. You cant lose fat from one particular area. If slendertone does work(i cant comment on this) using it will make no difference to your gut, it will just give you better stomach muscles that are hidden by fat.

    2. To lose weight you need an all round program.

    Jogging
Long slow jogs are the best. slow for me is 9-10kph, and i would class 5/6 km as a decent run, enough to get your metabolism up and working. This will differ for everyone, some will run faster and longer, some slower and shorter. As long as you push yourself each time you go out running you will feel benifits.

    Toning
Im not a huge believer in weights, or doing hundreds of repetitive exerciese. You should be able to get a great workout in 30/40 mins, and that will include a bunch of exercises:

    Lunges
    Pullups(proper pullups)
squats using weights such as kettlebells
    situps using gymball
    V sit's
    weighted obliques(very light weights)
various compound exercieses - the key to any successful plan

    Diet
Your putting on fat due to one of two things, or both:
    Not enough exercise
Too much fatty/sugary food or carbs
    Combo of both.

You can have everything you want, just some in smaller quantities than others. i make sure my diet is predominantly protein ( beef, chicken, eggs, nuts). I have veg along with most dinners. I have some rice or potatoes for carbs, but not much at all. I even allow myself chocolate and or ice cream, but in small quantities, and not too often. I enjoy drinking, but not every night or every week.

Everything in its proper quantities. There are people infinately more qualified to advise on a diet plan and training plan than me on these boards so i wont say much more. hopefully ive pointed you in the right direction.

One thing, dont "diet" in the conventional sense. People think "diet" means to give up fatty/sugary foods for a few weeks, kill themselves in the gym, lose a bunch of weight and then go back eating crap and living on the sofa. This does not work. it doesnt work. It really doesnt work!!!

Instead, aim for a lifestyle change. cut down gradually on bad foods and increase quantities of good foods, and aim to make this your satandard routine, so you dont even think about it. Make an effort to do some exercise every day or two, even if its only 5 mins. once your out there you will find you will go a lot longer than 5 mins!

    best of luck.

The short answer is that they won't work.

If you want the long answer look through the stickies or search for threads on fat loss :)

spot on, they are useless for what you want, and pretty much useless full stop.

    Waste of money.

If you've got a large area of sub-cutaneous fat, the electrical impulses won't make it through.

The best thing you could do is join a gym and avail of the services of a personal trainer for a few sessions.

...and NEVER do *full* situps unless you're looking to replace a spinal disc or three.

    Waste of money imo.

What's your daily diet like as it's probably here you can actually do most of the work and get rid of that annoying bit of a bodyfat that is left :)

Have you considered doing weights or kettlebells as part of your exercise?

Jaysus- your reply was going so well until you said never do full sit ups. There's nothing wrong with full sit up for the right Person even though I know there are more efficient ab exercises out there.

If you suffered disc trouble from doing them, it does not automatically mean they are bad.

The type of person who looks to a Slendertone isn't a person who is willing to go to the gym after work so i wouldn't waste your words on the OP folks. I would suggest YES you buy it as its better than the nothing you most likely do.
