Just got word - and this has NOT hit the news wires yet - that there has been some sort of roof collapse in a St Lawrences Town shopping center, Drogheda.
Its suspected this is due to the heavy snow that built up on its ceiling.
No word on any injuries (hopefully none) but I'm sure the news wires will pick up on the story soon!

Update: Gardi are now going to the scene right now.
The area is effected is on the second floor. Where the massive glass roof has fallen into the main public central area that is internal to the centre but outside Marks & Spencers, Boots, the cafe there to the left of M&S and the 3G phone shop.

Sh*t!! Center is a ghost town at the best of times but that area is just at the main entrance and at the middle of the busiest shops in the center.
Usually get a few stalls set up directly under it so to me, it doesnt sound good.

If it's not on the newswires yet, why are you posting it? May cause uneccessary worries for people.

So far there is NO reports in ANY injuries - and I get updated direct from state sources.

Others can now (if they see this thread) check quicker with anyone they know, that might be in the area.

    @ ivytheterrible
better to be up to date IMO, people can post what they know.

Fair enough. But I don't agree on principlel with emergency services (I presume it's one of those branches you mean by "state sources") releasing information on incidents before they are official. There is too much of that sort of gossiping going on.

I can assure you - this is not gossip.
And for the record, no hospital/ambulance service provided me with the news.

Biggins isn't one to post idle gossip to be fair.

There is a post in the Louth forum that it was just a burst water pipe.

When I say "gossip" I didn't mean to imply that what you are saying is not true (sorry if that's how it sounded). I just mean, that these "sources" should be releasing info on these sort of incidents through official channels and not to people that they know.

Anyway sorry to derail the thread. Glad no one is hurt.

    ?

    James Carroll
Laurances Centre in Drogheda is evacuating cars from the car park. There are burst water pipes. It is not too bad but if your car is in there you should get it moved out.

    No worries. :)

There is ALWAYS a security man standing under the roof all day - so before it collapsed hopefully he heard the impending breaking and cleared everyone out.

The water is leaking down from the heating system that broke in the breakage it appears.

Update: Drogheda Peter st now has closed as there appears to be a gas leak also.
Gardi are evacuating the centre and the cars from its park.

Thats awful news, especially with the kids out of school, more likely to be out shopping with mammy

Any sources? Still nothing on RTÉ website.

Lads, it was a burst pipe. The sprinklers came on and flooded the car park and ground floor. No gas leak, cops just there as a precaution.

    No deaths

I live beside it - its no big drama, thankfully

Is there anything to back up this, slightly scaremongery/fairly pointless, breaking news other than some guff about "state sources"?

    No.
No one was hurt, it was just a fallen roof that broke with it, water and gas.

...And one collapsed roof inside from the snow.

The fire service has taken over (as 35notout can also possibly see if they can) and is now allowing in one person at a time in to get their vehicles.

The centre will be closed for at least a day while damage is assessed and something can be done about the roof after inspection.

The cars have been coming out for the past hour. There was 1 fire engine there pumping the water out when I stuck myhead out an hour or so ago. But it really seems a big hullaballo over nothing.

    Thnakfully no body was hurt.
