I respect this is AH but if there has been an explosion, I think we should leave all joking aside until we heard that no one is hurt!

But without knowing the exact location of this O'Connell Street folk may be sweating about the safety of loved ones working in the vacinity of a similarly named street.

As it is an explosion it's probably national news.

1242 O'Connell Street has been closed to traffic in both directions following reports of a possible gas explosion at the Kylemore Cafe.
Gardaí say no injuries have been reported.

There were several fire engines, ambulances and police all over the city centre and not just on o'connell street. It looked like they were creating a cordon around the area with some along the luas line

Yip seems to be true, don't work too far away from it and sure enough there are fire crews inspecting the place.
Doesn't look to have been a huge explosion or anything - the cafe looks intact from what I could see.

Damn, wonder how long it'll be closed for.

EDIT: From Dublin Bus website - "Due to a gas leak in O'Connell St southbound, all services are rerouted via Cathal Bruagh St, Gardiner St, Customs House, Georges Quay, Burgh Quay to D'Olier St."

Very necessary. Not everyone in Ireland knows Dublin. Nor should they be compelled to, called names or belittled for not knowing Dublin.

I can confirm there is no Kylemore Cafe on O'Connell Street or for that matter any other street in Ennis :D

Back on topic Hopefully this was a minor thing and closing the street is just a precaution thankfully it appears no one was hurt can you imagine the potential injuries if it was a big explosion in the Kylemore??

In fairness, i updated the OP before the whole 'which o'connell street' thing started.

Besides, It wasn't specifically mentioned that it was Dublin on the radio report i heard.

    Anyway, Glad nobody was hurt.

Off-Topic It's not a dublin slagging off the rest of the country thing.

It would only be neccessary if boards was the only bit of the internet available to you and you relied on it for all your news.

You have google people... any pics up of it yet?

I'm surprised there's been none on twitter or anything

Yeah but that's history. All it takes it to be put in front of one bad history teacher and for the teenagers it's ZZZZZZZ.......

Anyways, no more farting cows giving milk. That's just wrong, as evidenced by the singed beef now in O'Connell st.

One of Dublin’s best known streets was shut today after a suspected gas explosion at a cafe.

O‘Connell Street was closed to traffic and pedestrians at lunchtime after the incident at the Kylemore at about 12.45pm.

There were no reports of injuries so far, a Garda spokesman said.

Both the north and south bound sides of the street were initially shut but the northern side later reopened.

A Bord Gáis inspector was on the scene, a spokesman for the company said.

It is not clear whether the explosion, which occurred in the basement of the cafe, was caused by gas.

    <leaves quietly>

Glad no one was hurt though.
