Uploading avatars with transparency not working?

I have an avatar with transparency - tried uploading it both as a PNG and a GIF (both support transparency) and it still appears with a white background. (GIF) (PNG) And yet when they're uploaded as an avatar, they lose their transparency: This was definitely working up until recently.

The avatar has to have a max of 90px. It was 92px, so I have resized this for you and applied it to your profile
