Would rap music get the young people back to mass?

I cant help but notice two things. One of them of them is is that the young people love them rappers and yet dont mass at all. So ive been thinkin should we do like theyve done in parts of America and incorprated the rap into the mass. That way we might get a few young people to come back to mass. What do you think?

Rifles at their heads wouldn't get young people back to mass now they know the Irish Catholic Church for the bunch of child-raping hypocritical headbangers that they are.

(Apologies to actual headbangers for the comparison.)

    No, but free iPods might.

I hate rap and mass, makes it easier for me to avoid so

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

No, sure don't they try the same with rock &/ roll. It only appeals to already young regular going churchie charlies, rather than convert / coax n00bs.

I'm afraid the institution of the church is damaged way beyond repair for many young people. 4Chan memes are their religion now.

No. Not all young people love rap.

So i've been informed anyway- i'm not young enough to know these things.

I don't go to mass on moral grounds anymore - and we'll say nothing about the just not wanting to waste my time either because it's a bit of a waste of time :p

Unless they gave me free money or some similarly good incentive to go I wouldn't and it's actually as simple as that

I have an iPod if I want rap (which I personally don't) but I can't see the young people who like rap wanting to go to mass because there's a priest saying the Hail Mary in a rap voice )

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18,239 ✭✭✭✭WindSock

Can't say there is much of a difference between the two; A load of men wearing bling, barking orders and hatin' on their bitches.

The ridiculous premise of the thread and the fact the poster has decided to name himself 'FF and proud', gives me the impression that this is probably the work of a troll.

I think country music is a better fit for the Bible. Look at all the suffering Jaysus went through. It's perfect for a country song... cept instead of his dog dying and is no good woman leaving him, he got betrayed by one friend, denied by another, forsaken by his daddy and nailed bloody and beaten to die on a cross by the people he was trying to help. Makings of a great country number I'm telling ya.

No, bowing and scraping to anyone is bollix even with fancy music.

"Fúck this shít I aint goin' to mass. You don' like it? Well, go kiss ma little white ass."

Yeah, it's kinda easier to rap hatefully....

Well if the priest started with:
"I said a hip, a hop, the hippie, the hippie
To the hip hip hop, a you dont stop
The rock it to the bang bang boogie say up jumped the boogie
To the rhythm of the boogie"

before the first reading it'd make a nice change to the stand/kneel/seated stuff.

"But first I gotta bang bang the boogie to the boogie
Say up jump the boogie to the bang bang boogie
    Let's rock, you don't stop
Rock the rhythm that will make your body rock
Well, so far you've heard my voice but I brought two friends along
And next on the mike is my man Hank:
Come on, Hank, sing that song"

and then Hank comes along with some phat Psalm. That'd get people to go to mass i think.

Actually the message of forgiveness in rapper's delight after the unfortunate dinner verse is very Christian. Pope approves.

where would it end though? Drive-by baptisms on the streets of Compton Crumlin?

Young people don't avoid mass because they think it's uncool they don't go to mass because they know it's all rubbish.

Has Brendan O'Connor as the rapping Fr.Brian been mentioned yet? He didn't really make for a convincing priest, but his paedophile face was uncanny.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,406 ✭✭✭Pompey Magnus

Well it would certainly be a sign of progress from the Catholic Church if kids started getting a rap from a priest instead of a rape from a priest.

More Eminem and less M&M's so to speak.

    1) If they replaced the alter boys with booty girls
    2) Replace the bit of bread with a happy pill
    3) Replace the wine/blood with a good whiskey
    4) Dim the lights a bit
    5) Replace those old wooden benches with some nice chilled out couches
    6) Turn on a bit of heating
    7) Change it to a time when I'm not hungover

then I ... ah no... don't think I would still go

OutlawPete already did and I hate him for it. Brendan O'Connor is a pain in the arse. He always has been and he always will be. That Fr. Brian nonsense wasn't funny the first time and everytime I see it now it reminds me all the more that I really wish O'Connor hadn't taken out that restraining order against me.
