Notes that sync to gmail

I can't believe I have not found one that actually does it yet.

Scenario 1 is my iPhone. Any note I type in my iPhone appears in gmail notes. Perfect.

Scenario 2 is my wonderful new Archos 10.1 tablet. I have tried many notes apps and none of them sync to my gmail account even though on many other forums, people asking the same question get pointed to these apps (which don't work).

I am not interested in notes that sync to 3rd party servers like Evernote. I want to sync with gmail.

I even set up a google apps account to see if any of the office apps that sync with google docs does it but it seems excel and word docs are all I can create.

Am I missing something? Do I have to wait until 2.2 froyo is available before it will work (and be part of the gmail app)? If that is the answer then I can wait. Archos have said it should be available by the end of November, which is err.. today :P

I am only using android a couple of days now....

Is it for Google Docs or Google Notebook?

No just plain old gmail. Have you never noticed in Gmail (assuming you have an account) there is a notes section?

Thanks for the tip on notebook as I have never noticed it before. It is something to consider. Or is it being discontinued?

Neither, it creates a label in Gmail and files it under that (link). Fairly weird way of doing it, it's forcing Gmail to be something it's not

OP, download the Docs Pics app. Allows you to sync with Google Docs.

    You mean the "Notes" label?

    gmnotes.jpg

I think that's just a regular label (there is no facility to "Add" a note there). It's just a label you can apply to any emails.

Sorry if we have crossed wires here - its the only "Notes" option I can see in gmail!

That's something the iPhone created automatically. It's just a normal label. The iPhone is essentially just providing an interface to allow you to create draft emails and group them all in one place

It's discontinued. Google Docs is probably your best bet

I guess it is just the notes label then. I never delved in to it much. I just created notes on my iPhone and they appeared in notes on gmail once I hooked the iPhone up to the internet.

The big thing is the need to create notes offline and have them sync up when there is internet access. I don't use gmail to create notes so never noticed I could not actually do it if I wanted to :D

From what I can see, Docs Pics only works when you are online but that is just from comments on the site. I will try it out anyway.

edit just turned on the archos and I have a firmware update. Way to leave it till the last day :D

Nope, I'm regularly offline and use it all the time

If you're looking for a good notes app, try catch. Download the app from the market place, and create an account on www.catch.com. You don't need to be online to access the notes, and syncing is painless.

If you need to sync files between your phone and the web, try dropbox (www.dropbox.com). I have lots of docs for work, PDFs, text files, some photos etc up there. Very handy.

I have GTasks - not sure if its what your looking for but seems to do the job for mehttp://www.appbrain.com/app/gtasks/org.dayup.gtask

Todo list, Task, Note pad,Google Tasks in Gmail Calendar - seems to have it all covered and its free. Auto sync too

Well after my 2.2 upgrade I have lost all my apps as expected, because I decided to do a clean install. What I did not expect was to lose gmail. I thought it came with it before but clearly it was only installed when I installed the android market.

No market fix yet but should be shortly according to archosfans.com

edit... just checked and it seems the workaround is up. will have to try when I am home.

This turned out to be exactly what I want, while it does not sync with the notes label in gmail, it syncs with tasks which is just as good, in fact probably better.

Gtasks is the way to go. I use it , dropbox and evernote for all my syncing needs.

Gtasks for todo lists (of which I have many) and it shows up in the gmail tasks list. Works great. Nice widgets too which are useful.

Dropbox for sharing files and other stuff and evernote for remembering links, numbers, scans of receipts etc. Works great.

I use Gtasks aswell and it works pretty well. However, I'd love if there was a way to sync it to a desktop widget on my laptop. I use Rainlendar desktop widget on my laptop and to be able to simply double click say "Dec 3" on the desktop, put in a subject and details of an event, click ok and see it on my HTC Desire a minute later without having to do anything else is absolutely brilliant. Unfortunately I don't think Google have released the API (or some other technical thingy) to allow the Rainlendar folk to be able to do the same with their task widget :(

If anyone knows of a desktop task widget for windows that will sync with Google Tasks>Gtasks and vice versa, please share :)
