So I go to the gym about 2.3 times a week, have the same usual routine - hit the treadmill, then cross-trainer and then have a go at some of the weights depending on the mood.

I've had a pretty stagnant routine since March - and when I run on the treadmill I always measure success based on calories, running at the same speed of 10.5km/hour until I hit ~500 calories. Now 500 cals would be my limit and have rarely managed to keep going beyond this (once or twice I hit 550). This normally equates to between 5.5-6.5 km in distance.

Well tonight for some reason, have no idea why, when I hit the 550 cals mark I looked at the distance and thought - go on do it - run until you hit 10km. Now at the time one part of my brain was laughing saying no chance, but I actually did it. I just kept ploughing away, upping the speed to 11.5km/h for the last 1.5km.

It felt fecking great. Having never been able to push past 6.5km it was fantastic to finish up with 10.2km on the clock.

So question is now - where do I go from here? Should I now be aiming for this every time I run, or should I keep this as something I try every other week? I'd love to continue to up my distance and push to 15km etc etc... wow that would be amazing.

PS if 10km is just a light run for you don't mock - it was a big deal for me and I feel great now! (ironically I just started antibiotics for a chest infection yesterday too - so perhaps there was some E in there or something :p)
