Weight training and the cold.

    Im likely not the only person going to be training in a cold gym this week.:rolleyes:


    Are you going to adapt your training anyway in response to the cold?

    I might do a barbell complex at the start to warm my muscles up and get me ready to go.

    Thoughts?

    No?!

    Just do a normal warm up with mobility stuff. Your core temperature isn't actually going to drop that much.

    seen one of the lads coming out of the sauna with all his clothes said he was just warming up before training ha

    5-7 mins on a cardio machine is a more than sufficient warm up for your body.

    Then doing the first set of each muscle group slightly lighter for a few more reps as per normal should be more than sufficient.

    I trained in my garage today was -2, light squats warm the body up quick then into working sets and you're on fire.

    Your normal warm up routine should do the trick, and maybe add in some burpee's to get the blood flowing!:D

    If you find it hard to keep warm, compression gear works quite well. i.e. skins, under armour etc

    +1, If your normal warm up is designed well then it should be more than sufficient.

    My elbow and shoulder joints feel ****e outside in the cold and for a good while after I get inside even. I know that's not right.
    I should be fine warmed up inside the gym though. It does take ages for my shoulders to feel warmed up.

    as mentioned above, its not rocket science just wear extra clothes.

    I trained in a garage gym during the winter with no heating, I'd wear a sweathshirt and hat most of the time. If youre in a commercial gym Im sure they might adjust the heating, or just wear a hat!

    put the right clothes on

    Did 7km run yesterday and felt super - felt like running on sand at times.

    Gym workouts are not an issue and any home workouts i do are a mix of body weight , bands and kettlebells

    It's better too cold than too warm imo. I trained in Crunch a few years ago and the place was like a sauna, you could literally taste the sweat in the air.

    Normal warm up and a hoody. Actually since wearing a hoody i've noticed i don't fatigue as quick. Not sure if it's just a coincendence or the extra layer of heat gets my blood flowing more.

    thanks for the replies guys I trained in a hoodie and beanie and I was well warmed up after my first few sets of squats.:D
