:)a bit of a light hearted debate going on between me and my 15 year old son.
    opinions welcome...

.... in our home we have a home cinema 110" screen which is hooked up to wii, ps3 and internet, it is used for watching films playing rockband wii etc but the vast majority is my son for the ps3, usually with no problem.
The HD bulb has a life span of 3000 hrs and costs €350 to replace.
Recently my son bought a new game "call of duty" and I suggested that he hook up the ps3 to a 40" tv for about a month until he gets the majority of game play hrs on the tv instead of the projector (to limit the bulb use) , he gave his word he would do this, a week later still not done so I have taken the game and said he could not have it back until he hooked ot up to the tv.
That was a week ago, since then we have been having a good old debate as to whether my actions are unfair or not ?

so we have agreed to let boards decide...
who's right dad or son

You are right. Btw, most responses you will get to this question will be "oh an 110 inch projector and a 40 inch tv in a recession and they are complaining?" Try to ignore them :D

You suggested is where things get somewhat murky.
Suggestion is a recommendation not a set opinion or rule. You suggested to use the 40".

With that said, he gave his word he'd follow your suggestion.

So as far as I'm concerned there should be no debate, your entirely in the right.

Me thinks, if he's anything like most people under the age of 18... go onto his profile and proceed to ruin all his stats. That'll teach him :D

no your fine its your tv and you gave him plenty of warning he had it coming .

personally i wouldnt leave my parenting open to the opinion of internet strangers but thats a whole different issue

If he gives you 350 euro for a new bulb , leave him work away , if not he'll have to use the shabby 40" :p.

Tell him to cop on and play in HD on the 40" :p

I'm assuming the projector is SD?

Back in my day we only had 1 tv, for the 'aul VHS and N64. You could only choose between SD, and well, SD. Ah, those were the simple days.

Don't let him have it back, he's too young :p

Back in MY day we had a commodore 64. If the games was loading you couldn't move an inch, had to hold your breath 'til you got the all clear it had read the floppy disk :p

And I thought times were bad for me, having to play on a feckin' 16 inch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,739 ✭✭✭Stuxnet

he shouldn't be playing it till he's 18 anyway, ..keep it !!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,381 ✭✭✭Br4tPr1nc3

    would you stop.
you use the projector every so often for films.
hes your son, let him enjoy the thing!!!

it will take him a very long time to go through the bulb, a round about 3000 hours maybe.

besides thats more of an estimate anyway. im sure it will last longer!

    let him use it.

A floppy disk!! Aren't we posh! In MY day, we had to put up with 10 minutes of banshee wailing while the tape loaded.... and then do it again when it inevitably didn't load properly!

was that not a cartridge it used?

I thought this was going to be a debate about him being too young for that game (bet that's what it would be if his mam asked the question;);)). He IS too young for it btw, but that wasn't your question..

Keep the game until he agrees to watch it on the 40inch, your house, your rules. When he's working and can afford the 350 euro for the replacement bulb, then let him use the bigger screen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,411 ✭✭✭✭gimli2112

Wait, you took the game off him? That's just plain evil.

    Lucky ****er.

    I'm playing on a 12 inch for ****s sake.

Never really thought about the age thing..... we are stereotypical Irish, violence is ok .....as long as there is no sex involved :pac:

I don't play games but anytime I seen him play it did not seem too bad ?
He is the least violent person I have ever met very good kid and unusual for him to to agree to a rule.
That is why I was questioning if I was wrong and we agreed to post it here, and then on the parenting forum for balance. However given the posts here we won't bother posting the Q anywahere else. :)

By the way I started on a mitsubishi MLF-80 ....road racer 1983

Off topic: a Wii on a 110" screen, how bad is the picture quality

On topic: tell your son that he can play BOs on the screen once he knows that Santa is only bringing him a Bulb for his christmas present

edit: Actually given the seriousness of this problem I think a boards team lead by me should go out to eh "witness" black ops being played on said 110" screen and after a couple of hours of us "investigating" we can give you a better answer

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,102 ✭✭✭am i bovvered

the pic quality on the wii is as good as any tv.

no bulb for christmas, the home entertainment was set up a good few years ago...pre recession :o

we read the thread last night and he had to admit defeat. He just got up (no school due to snow) and set up the tv.

    Thanks Boards !!!!

I remember getting a game going alright. Insert tape then "Shiftlock, Runstop, shiftlock" then hit "play".
Then twenty minutes of seizure inducing colours, followed by "Please Turn over casette" All to play a few minutes of Ghostbusters

On topic. I've a 22inch TV and I'm happy. On occasion I'll use the main tv, but sparingly, my dad is still under the impression that a PS3 will damage the TV. My "But Dad, they're both made by the same company" rationale is useless

floppy disk??!? Luxury. We had a tape drive and if the game didn't load, you had to get a screwdriver and a stopwatch.

He shouldnt be playing it full stop - I myself was shocked at some of the content on this game - and im 27. It's rated 18 for a reason.

I dont consider actually watching your character saw through someone's throat then look into the hole suitable for a 15 yr old.

    God im getting old :(

I'd say he'd get less lag with the TV than the projector.

Kid sounds cocky, get the oul' belt out.

Seriously though, What do you work as?

More seriously, what level/Prestige was your son in MW2? If he's a noob, tell him to get lost and get some SK1LLZZZ before he gets the PRIVILEGE of using the 110inch.

If, however, he's a 9th prestige legit quickscoping prodigy who goes 14-1 in every SnD game then by all means give him the f*cking 110inch and let him at it.

:D no he is a great kid, very rarely disagrees with anything this was not a big argument, he just felt I was being unfair its been good for him to read the replies.

I work as a chef, nothing special, I have nothing to brag about I drive a €600 car not much in the bank but have a nice home and love to ski.
The home entertainment set up cost the same as a decent flat screen in 2007 -2008 https://us.v-cdn.net/6034073/uploads/attachments/91880/59352.JPG its a HD projector, better than any TV we own, I set it all up myself including making the screen, if anyone wants any help just ask.

Don't have a clue what any of that means , he says he is level 21 prestige 1 (he says thats my fault for not letting him play :P)
