    Hi everyone,
Having been a major lurker here for the past few months I have finally decided to post about my atrocious eating habits. In the past year I have gone from 8 stone to currently being just over 9.5 stone....disgusting! I just stopped exercising, got lazy, I used to walk 5/6 miles daily and also ate 3 healthy meals a day. Then I gained a bit from eating junk and have spent the year going from diet to diet. I have done the cabbage soup diet, low carb...south beach/atkins, fasting, cut out grains, fruit fast....I could go on but what a joke!! All they have caused me to do is restrict so much that I gained way more than the initial 5 lbs I was trying to lose!! I guess I know the answer to my problem and that is to go back to my previous healthy way of eating and exercise but there lies the problem. I'm looking for that to happen overnight and am finding it so hard to cope with the extra weight, having NEVER been this big. I wear baggy clothes to cover myself up as I am convinced everyone is commenting on the extra weight! Anyway I am yabbing on too much...my question is what should i really be eating? I love fruit and carrots among other veg but Ive read so much here about problems with consuming too many sugars, even natural ones. So do I cut them out? I eat very little meat, I may have chicken once a month, just dont have the taste for it. At the moment, my food choices are terrible...loaads of soda bread and dinner is usually 4/5 biscuits and 2/3 bars of choc!!! I have a terrible sweet tooth!!
    Any advice appreciated!

    :)

Won't happen overnight so accept that.
You should really try and eat more meat, loads of leafy veg, carrots etc, not too much fruit late in the day. Cut down on the biccies etc (but still have some every 2nd day or so for a treat). A good lash of veg and fruit that you like is sooooooooooooooooooo much better for you than the choclote and biscuits. I'd hazard a guess that you probably don't feel fantastic after them anyway as nutritionally they are fairly dire. After a few days of healthy eating with some exercise and a small treat or two you'll no doubt be feeling lots better.Do some exercise, you'll get back into it.

Main thing is to stop fretting about your weight, 9 and a half stone is nothing at all.

Thanks, I suppose I know deep down that i just have to snap out of this rut I've gotten myself into!! but as regards meat I havent eaten red meat since it was forced into me up until the age of 7 or 8.....I was never able to actually swallow it, always chewed and chewed before having to spit it out. Not the greatest fan of chicken so at my previous weight I generally ate porridge, lots of fruit and veg, whoewheat toast with scrambled egg on and off. Is eating protein really necessary/important?

Definitely go for the protein :)

It will help you to build muscle and lose fat. I know you said you don't love red meat do you eat fish at all?

I do eat prawns but again prob once a fortnight at most!! Is higher protein so the way to go? Think I'd find to limit intake of fruit, would easily have 2 apples, 3 plums and bowl of blueberries per day!!(when i'm not eating junk!):) I do feel way better when I'm eating fresh fruit and veg, better mood, more energy, etc but keep slipping into junk binges:mad:

If the meat is a no no (sounds like it is) then do have scrambled eggs, omelettes etc a few (minimally times a week). Are beans ok for you ? Beans are good too :) Throw in a fist full of nuts with the blueberries (some nuts are less calorie heavy than others and have more protein, google is your friend). Quite a few high protein foods knocking about, some aren't half bad tastewise either.

You're only in a rut, we all get into them from time to time :) A little bit of a shove and you'll be out of it.

To be honest sounds like you're on the right track already, apples & blueberries excellent choices not sure about plums as I don't really eat them but they're probably good too!

I suppose I find eating higher protein and lower carbs suits me better ie. i feel less sluggish etc. but i'm sure everyone is different. I would eat porridge for breakfast and maybe carbs at lunch and sometimes dinner but I try and leave them out the later it is in the day.

I've really gotten into salmon, smoked and fresh lately and was taken out for dinner last night where I had the most beautiful monkfish ever! I don't eat alot of red meat either just every now and then.

Also beans are a good option if you like them as per previous poster. :)

    Best of luck with everything!!:D

Oh ya and btw I totally know where you're coming from, broke my arm a few months ago and had to step back a bit from the excercise and gained a few pounds nothing major but I just think I kinda get that feeling you have when it's just so hard to make the first step towards starting again. Anyway, I'm sure you'll do great!
